Fuel tanker erupts in flames after crashing into Broward County bus on I-595, authorities say
A gasoline tanker caught fire Monday morning after sideswiping a parked transit bus and crashing into a median wall on Interstate 595, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 10 a.m. on the westbound lanes of I-595, just east of Southwest 136th Avenue. Authorities said the tanker sideswiped a disabled and unoccupied Broward County Transit bus that was stopped on the left shoulder, then veered into the median and struck the median wall. The vehicle continued traveling west for about a tenth of a mile before bursting into flames, police said. Davie Police and Fire Rescue responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The driver of the tanker was transported to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment. His condition has not been released. Westbound traffic on I-595 was diverted to State Road 84 at the Hiatus Road exit as crews worked the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
