1 dies in U.S. 60 West single-car accident

The Daviess County Sheriff's Department is investigating a single-car accident that claimed the life of one person. According to the DCSD, the wreck was reported around 5 a.m. Saturday in the 10400 Block of US Highway 60 West, near the Henderson County line. The report said emergency crews found a single vehicle approximately 30 feet off the roadway and a broken utility pole. The sole occupant, who has not been identified, of the vehicle was found deceased inside the car. According to the report, the preliminary investigation by the DCSO Accident Reconstruction Unit shows that the vehicle was westbound on U.S. 60 West, and left the roadway for unknown reasons, hitting the utility pole before rolling and eventually coming to rest in a field partially submerged in water from the storms that hit the area the previous evening. The report said the crash most likely occurred during the night and the scene was not discovered until early morning when a passing motorist almost struck wires that were over the roadway and got out of his vehicle to investigate and noticed the car in the field. The crash is being investigated by the DCSO Accident Reconstruction Unit, and the death is being investigated by the Daviess County Coroner's Office. The highway was closed in both directions while emergency crews including the Daviess County Fire Department and Stanley Fire Department worked the scene and Kenergy replaced the utility pole.
