MSPCA-Angell provides care to dogs rescued from Springfield fire

BOSTON (WWLP) – Three dogs are receiving life-saving care from MSPCA-Angell after being rescued from a fire in Springfield Monday night. Chihuahuas Daylilah, Peluche, and Savanna were brought to a local veterinary hospital by emergency crews on Monday after being saved from a fire on Carew Street in Springfield. Two cats died in Carew Street fire in Springfield, three dogs rescued The doctors observed that the dogs were in respiratory distress, and potentially also suffering from neurological issues. The three dogs were brought to MSPCA-Angell's Animal Medical Center in Boston Tuesday evening and immediately sent to intensive care for treatment. 'There were other animals involved in this fire that unfortunately perished, but these dogs are fighters,' said Mike Keiley, Vice President of the MSPCA-Angell's Animal Protection Division. 'The chihuahuas are fighting for survival, and we're doing everything we can to help them.' At the medical center, the dogs are being kept in oxygen cages and given fluids and medication while the veterinarians at MSPCA-Angell work to treat their smoke inhalation damage. However, there is currently no clear timeline as to when the chihuahuas will recover. The dogs were surrendered by their owners in Springfield due to the state of their health and prolonged hospitalization time, but Keiley said he hopes that Daylilah, Peluche, and Savanna will be able to recover to find another loving home. 'Once we're out of the woods, we can work to place them into loving homes through our adoption centers, but right now all we're thinking about is getting these dogs into stable condition,' Keiley said.
