Vacant Todd Street house destroyed in early morning blaze
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A vacant house caught fire early Saturday morning on Todd Street. According to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, the fire began at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Todd Street. Our 2 NEWS weekend photographer spoke with Dayton Fire's District Chief, Nick Judge, on the scene. Judge said this is a property the department is familiar with. He said it is a long-time vacant house which often used by squatters, and that the department has dealt with numerous fires on this street. NATO summit has blood center seeking more donors, just in case Bystanders told the DFD a person might be in the building when they arrived. The crews went inside the heavy fire and searched, but did not discover anyone inside. 'The fire is under investigation at this time; it is suspicious in nature,' said Judge. 'The house is boarded up, but we do not have a final cause determined yet.' There were no injuries from the fire. Judge called the house a total loss and said the house will likely be put on the demolition list for the city. 2 NEWS will update this article when more information is available. Dayton Fire called to blaze at vacant house on Woodward Avenue
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A firefighter was the only injury resulting from a house fire on Woodward Avenue Saturday. Dayton Fire was called to Woodward Avenue near West 3rd Street around noon Saturday. Dayton Fire graduates ‘most diverse' in department history
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Dayton Fire Department made history Friday as it graduated its most diverse class in its history. On Friday, May 2, Dayton Fire graduated the seven female fire recruits, including its first two Black female recruits. Why are porch lights blue in Ohio? 'This graduating class of new firefighters represents the most diverse fire recruit class in the history of the Dayton Fire Department, with a combined ethnic and gender diversity of 59%,' said Dayton Fire Department. Each recruit went through 6-months of 'comprehensive' training. Fire leaders said they believe the program is one of the toughest. Firefighters respond to house fire in Harrison Township
Firefighters responded to a house fire in Harrison Township early Saturday morning. No injuries have been reported at this time. According to the dispatch sergeant, there were reports of cats still being inside, but it is unclear if they have been located at this time.
