Peja Stojakovic Accuses Rich Paul of Blackmail in De'Aaron Fox Trade From Sacramento Kings to San Antonio Spurs
(Image Source- Getty Images) What began as an exciting three-team trade has now turned into a scandal. Peja Stojakovic, the former Sacramento Kings star and executive, has made a shocking claim — he says that agent Rich Paul essentially "blackmailed" the Kings into trading De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs, not for the best deal, but to push Klutch Sports' interests. Peja Stojakovic claims Rich Paul controlled De'Aaron Fox trade destination to the San Antonio Spurs On the NBA Out of Bounds and NBA Mozzart podcasts, Peja Stojakovic mentioned that Rich Paul gave a "directive" about where De'Aaron Fox should go, essentially "blackmailing the Kings" into sealing the deal with the San Antonio Spurs. Consequently, Sacramento Kings was said to have missed out on the chance to consider offers from other teams, which Peja Stojakovic thinks restricted their negotiation options. At the center of the deal was a three-team swap in February 2025 that sent De'Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin to the San Antonio Spurs, while Zach LaVine, another Rich Paul client, landed in Sacramento King from the Chicago Bulls, along with multiple future draft selections. The Kings received three first-round picks (for 2025, 2027 and 2031) plus three seconds, and flipped prospect Sidy Cissoko for center Jonas Valanciunas. Statistically, De'Aaron Fox had impressive stats in his 17 games with the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.3 rebounds before a finger injury at the end of the season put him out of action. On the other hand, Zach LaVine joined Sacramento's backcourt, but the team ended up with a 40–42 record and didn't make the playoffs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Wrinkle Cream Keeps Selling Out At Costco (Find Out Why) The Skincare Magazine Undo Peja Stojakovic believes that if the Kings had explored more options for trading De'Aaron Fox, they could have gotten a better return than just draft picks and one standout player. This isn't the first time Rich Paul has faced accusations of manipulating things behind the scenes: critics were quick to blame him during the Anthony Davis trade to the Lakers back in 2019. Now, the growing claims from a well-respected former executive highlight how influential agents, particularly those representing several high-profile clients, can sway trade dynamics and impact franchise decisions. Peja Stojakovic's statements make us rethink if NBA trades are just a front-office thing or if agents like Rich Paul actually have a say in the matter. If teams are limited by what their clients want, especially with the risk of losing star players, it seems like the power dynamics in trade discussions could be changing. For Kings fans, the lingering question is: was De'Aaron Fox really worth the price they paid?

De'Aaron Fox offers injury update
De'Aaron Fox offers injury update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last season, before the trade deadline, the San Antonio Spurs added All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings, hoping that he would be the long-term running mate for Victor Wembanyama. Advertisement The pair played only five games together, going 2-3, before Wembanyama had his season ended early with a deep vein thrombosis diagnosis in his shoulder. A few weeks later, Fox had his season ended as well, undergoing surgery on his pinkie finger. In 17 games with the Spurs, Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists, clearly needing to get used to his new team. He expects to use the offseason to settle into his role with his new teammates and is already playing five-on-five and has been cleared for contact. 'I'm doing well. The surgery went fine,' Fox told The Houston Chronicle. 'I've been cleared, so I played a little five-on-five, and I've done contact stuff, so I'll be ready for next year.' The Spurs gave up Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Sidy Cissoko, and four first-round draft picks to the Kings and Chicago Bulls in a three-team deal to land Fox, although several of those picks had protections on them, and one of them ended up not conveying to the Kings. Advertisement Before the trade, Fox asked the Kings to get a deal done and listed the Spurs as the only acceptable landing spot. With Wembanyama in town, San Antonio has become a premier destination, and Fox got in on the ground floor, expecting the team to find massive success in the next few years. Former Sacramento Kings star De'Aaron Fox's custom home is for sale. Take a look
Former Sacramento Kings All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox and his wife, Recee, on Monday listed their refined home with a beautiful backyard garden for $3.1 million. The custom-designed home sits on a well-landscaped, 1.13-acre lot in a tony enclave of Carmichael, a suburb of Sacramento, California. With five bedrooms and six bathrooms, the contemporary, immaculate and gated estate is a fusion of sophistication, style and comfort across all of its 5,500 square feet of living space. Earlier this year, the Kings basketball team traded Fox to the San Antonio Spurs as part of a three-team deal that also involved the Chicago Bulls. In the trade, Fox joined forces with rising star Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio. Under soaring ceilings, the home flows indoors to outdoors from the grand entry out to the covered patio and centerpiece pool. Oversized sliding glass doors open the home up for seamless entertaining. Listing agent Kelly Pleasant of Guide Real Estate said the home's design allows family members or guests to enjoy distinct living areas without ever feeling crowded. There are dual primary suites, each with spa-style bathrooms. One side of the house encompasses additional bedrooms and a flex room that can be used as an office, den, media room or gym. 'This is a perfect gift for a buyer who is really wanting that separation,' Pleasant said. The home features multiple fireplaces and hardwood and stone floors. There's a four-car garage with plenty of storage and an EV charger. The drive-through garage accesses the interior by way of a mudroom. The gourmet kitchen is well-appointed with high-end appliances, a large quartz waterfall island and pantry and is equipped with a service kitchen. The grounds have spaces that offer opportunities to add amenities, such as a chef's garden or accessory dwelling unit (ADU). Fox, a 27-year-old father of two, bought the home in 2020 for $2.325 million, according to public records. The house was built in 2016. Fox played basketball for the University of Kentucky during the Wildcats' 2016-2017 season. The Kings selected him in the first round on the NBA draft, with the fifth overall pick, in 2017. Fox averaged 21.2 points per game and 6.1 assists per game during his time in Sacramento, according to

Game Preview: San Antonio Spurs vs. Toronto Raptors
The final day of the NBA season is a time for reflection. It's a time when fan bases (the ones that haven't checked out already) look at what went right and wrong at the end of the 82-game marathon. The San Antonio Spurs can very clearly point to what went wrong. Untimely injuries to Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox ruined their chance of competing for a spot in the Play-In Tournament. You could easily point to the development of rookie Stephon Castle and the good play from Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson down the stretch as what went right. Now they'll wrap up their season with nothing to gain and nothing to lose. At 33-48, the Spurs are locked into the 8th-best odds at the number-one overall pick in the draft. Their opponent, the Toronto Raptors, is just a step ahead of them in the lottery standings and is locked in with the 7th best odds. Advertisement Both teams will rest key players to their franchises. The players on the court have nothing to gain but pride, leaving some good tape for teams across the league to assess. San Antonio will get to wrap up this roller coaster of a campaign at home amongst their fans. San Antonio Spurs (33-48) vs. Toronto Raptors (30-51) April 13th, 2025 | 2:30 PM CT Watch: Fan Duel | Listen: WOAI (1200 AM) Spurs Injuries: De'Aaron Fox – Out (finger), Riley Minix – Out (shoulder), Jeremy Sochan – Out (back), Devin Vassell – Out (ankle), Victor Wembanyama – Out (shoulder) Raptors Injuries: RJ Barrett – Out (rest), Ulrich Chomche – Out (knee), Gradey Dick – Out (knee), Brandon Ingram – Out (ankle), Jakob Poeltl – Out (hand), Immanuel Quickley – Out (rest), Jared Rhoden – Out (shoulder), Ja'Kobe Walter – Out (hip) What to watch for: End of the bench San Antonio will likely give a lot of minutes to players at the end of the bench like Malaki Branham and David Duke Jr. on Sunday. This is the last chance for these young players to make an impression before contract negotiations this summer. Toronto will have plenty of players in a similar situation. If you're looking for meaning in a fairly meaningless game, this is the best place to look. Stephon Castle ends strong The Spurs have an opportunity to take home their second-straight Rookie of the Year award thanks to Castle. He's the front-runner for the award and has been one of the Spurs' most consistent bright spots throughout the season. He'll look to end the season with a bang against the Raptors. Castle has cemented himself as a core piece of San Antonio's future. Spurs' General Manager, Brian Wright, and the rest of the front office have to feel good about their draft selections right now. Iron Man seasons In the NBA, availability is the best ability. The Spurs will have three players who have logged minutes in all 82 games. Chris Paul, Harrison Barnes, and Julian Champagnie will have played in every regular season game after playing on Sunday. The trio have been mainstays for the Spurs this season. In a turbulent year filled with untimely injuries, you could argue players like Barnes and Paul have been the rocks of the squad. Advertisement More from
