Georgia basketball transfer guard finds new home
One of Georgia's key bench scorers is heading to a new team. Georgia guard De'Shayne Montgomery is transferring to the Dayton Flyers. Montgomery is ranked as the No. 196 player and the No. 54 shooting guard in the transfer portal, per 247Sports. Advertisement Montgomery is one of four Georgia players to enter the transfer portal. He joins guard Silas Demary (committed to UConn), power forward RJ Godfrey (committed to Clemson), and point guard Savo Drezgic (uncommitted). Montgomery started out his college basketball career with the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, where he looked like an effective three-and-defense shooting guard, earning 13.2 points per game, 1.7 steals per game, and a shooting 41.2% from behind the arc. He transferred to the Georgia Bulldogs for his second season, expecting to be a key contributor to the team. Unfortunately, he played just 17 games because he was academically ineligible for the first 10 games. Afterward, all of his numbers went down, with just 6.5 points and 1.1 steals per game on 25% three-point shooting. Still, Montgomery impressed in the first three games of the season, earning 16 points per game with a 57.1% three-point percentage. The Dayton Flyers are looking for that side of him to emerge. Dayton is coming off a disappointing season where they narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament. This article originally appeared on UGA Wire: UGA basketball transfer commits to Atlantic 10 school

Georgia Bulldogs basketball 2025 transfer portal tracker
Georgia Bulldogs basketball 2025 transfer portal tracker The Georgia Bulldogs are looking to make a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2025-2026. However, Georgia basketball will have to try to do it with almost an entirely new team. The Bulldogs have three players in the transfer portal as of March 31. Georgia is expected to lose starting point guard Silas Demary Jr., forward RJ Godrey and guard De'Shayne Montgomery this offseason. This trio has all entered the transfer portal. Players that enter the portal can return to Georgia, but generally most players end up transferring out. Georgia is also projected to lose starting center Asa Newell to the 2025 NBA draft. Newell is a projected lottery pick and was UGA's leading scorer and rebounder last season. Georgia senior guards Tyrin Lawrence and Dakota Leffew are both out of eligibility. This means that six of Georgia's seven leading scorers from 2024-2025 are not expected to return with the lone exception being guard Blue Cain (9.6 points per game), who is yet to announce his future. Georgia and head coach Mike White has several targets in the portal. It is clear that Georgia will have a ton of playing time to offer to incoming transfers. Georgia basketball transfer portal tracker Point guard Silas Demary Jr. Georgia's starting point guard Silas Demary Jr. entered the transfer portal and the 2025 NBA draft. Demary was UGA's second-leading scorer (13.5 points per game) in 2024-2025. Demary was Georgia's team leader in assists (3.1) and steals (1.7) per game. He has not committed to a new school. Forward RJ Godfrey RJ Godfrey, a Clemson transfer, averaged 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 19.5 minutes per game in his lone season at Georgia. Godfrey has excellent size, but is not a great shooter. He did not play over 20 minutes in any of Georgia's games this March. Guard De'Shayne Montgomery De'Shayne Montgomery was academically ineligible for a good chunk of the season. The sophomore averaged 6.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 15.7 minutes per game. The Gonzaga game was the only time he played since Georgia's Feb. 15 loss to Missouri, so his decision to enter the transfer portal does not come as much of a surprise.
