$2M tool heist from train leads authorities to Southaven homes
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office says it recovered $30,000 worth of stolen Milwaukee tools and took one person into custody after searching two residential properties in Southaven, Mississippi. The sheriff's office said its criminal investigations division and SWAT team assisted the Union Pacific Railroad Police in executing search warrants at the homes as part of a long-term investigation into the theft of about $2 million in Milwaukee Tools from cargo containers. The ATF and FBI also assisted with the operation. DCSO has not released any details about the train car heist or the locations where some of the tools were found but said Macon Herron was taken into custody. Man accused of indecent exposure again During the searches, authorities said they also recovered a stolen Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a stolen Can-Am Renegade ATV, and a Glock pistol with a machine gun diversion device. Herron already has an active arrest warrant out of Crittenden County, Arkansas, and a prior arrest record for receiving stolen property, the sheriff's office said. Herron is now facing two counts of felony receiving stolen property and prohibited possession of a machine gun conversion device. New Mexico triple homicide suspect found in MS
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The suspect accused in a triple homicide in New Mexico turned himself over to authorities in Hernando, Mississippi on Sunday, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office. A search warrant in the 11100 block of Pecan Ridge Cove on Sunday led to the arrest of Kane Mayes, accused in the shooting deaths of three people in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The DCSO says a detective from Alamogordo informed the sheriff's office that the suspect, along with a vehicle stolen during the crime, was believed to be at the home in Hernando. Woman charged with cashing her sister's $6K check At the home, detectives reportedly recovered the 2015 Subaru Outback that had been reported stolen in relation to the homicides, along with 'other items of evidentiary value.' Reports say Mayes turned himself in at the Hernando Police Department and confessed to driving the stolen car from New Mexico to the home on Pecan Ridge Cove. Mayes was taken into custody and charged with Receiving Stolen Property – Felony and Fugitive from Justice. He is currently awaiting extradition back to New Mexico. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Man accused of breaking into multiple Shelby County homes
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Sheriff's Office detectives have arrested a man connected to multiple home burglaries dating back to last December. Between December 21, 2024, and January 23, 2025, burglaries were taking place across southeast Shelby County. Following an investigation by the SCSO, detectives identified 38-year-old Ricky Pointer as the person allegedly responsible for these crimes. On January 24, detectives with the support of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office, Horn Lake Police Department and other law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at a residence in the 5800 block of Waverly Drive in Horn Lake, Mississippi. During the operation, authorities seized two vehicles, a GMC Acadia and a white Chrysler 300, both linked to the burglaries. Over a dozen cars broken into in Cooper-Young District Detectives also found numerous stolen firearms and other physical evidence tied to the crimes. On January 27, the SCSO Fugitive Apprehension Team, along with the SCSO detectives arrested Ricky Pointer without incident in the 4900 block of Rosefield Road in South Memphis. He was taken into custody on four outstanding warrants and charged with three counts of aggravated burglary. Detectives said he will face more charges from both the SCSO and DeSoto County Sheriff's Office as the investigation remains ongoing.
