Emmy award-winning actor Valerie Mahaffey dies aged 71

Valerie Mahaffey, the Emmy-award winning actor known for her roles on Northern Exposure, Desperate Housewives and Young Sheldon, died on Friday. She was 71. Her husband, actor Joseph Kell, said in a statement to Variety: 'I have lost the love of my life, and America has lost one of its most endearing actresses. She will be missed.' Kell said she died on 30 May in Los Angeles after a battle with cancer. Mahaffey had a career which spanned nearly 50 years and was known for playing eccentric characters, including the one for which she won a supporting actress Emmy in 1992: as hypochondriac Eve living in the fictional Alaska town featured in Northern Exposure, which aired from 1990 to 1995. Mahaffey most recently received an Independent Spirit award nomination for her role as the optimistic Madame Reynard in Azazel Jacobs' 2020 dark comedy French Exit. Michelle Pfeiffer, who played opposite Mahaffey in French Exit, posted on social media: 'One of our brightest stars was stolen from us yesterday. Such a remarkable talent and human.' She co-starred in Big Sky, David E Kelley's ensemble detective drama series which aired on ABC from 2020 to 2021. She also portrayed the grandiose Lorna Harding in the first two seasons of Dead to Me, the Netflix comedy starring Christina Applegate. Mahaffey was born in Indonesia on 16 June 1953 and was raised there until she was 11 before graduating from high school in Texas and going on to study at the University of Texas. She began her acting career on the stage in New York City, appearing in six Broadway six plays including Dracula opposite Raul Julia and Play Memory directed by Harold Prince. She also played Ashley Bennett on the soap opera The Doctors, for which she earned a Daytime Emmy nomination. She collected two Obie awards for her theater work in Top Girls and in Alan Bennett's Talking Heads. Mahaffey's versatility kept her constantly in demand for guest roles and she amassed dozens of series credits including Seinfeld, Wings, ER, Glee, Grey's Anatomy and The Mindy Project. She played the manipulative Alma Hodge, ex-wife of Kyle MacLachlan's Orson Hodge, on Desperate Housewives from 2006 to 2007 and recurred as the teacher Victoria MacElroy on Young Sheldon from 2017 to 2020. Survivors include her husband and daughter, Alice. Rob Morrow, Mahaffey's Northern Exposure co-star, posted on social media that Mahaffey 'was a breath of fresh air, joy and laughs' as Eve on the series. 'We all adored her,' he said.

Dele Alli's braless ex Ruby Mae sends temperatures soaring in a VERY revealing crochet dress

Dele Alli 's ex-girlfriend Ruby Mae put on an eye-popping display in a colourful crochet dress on Friday. The model, 29, sizzled in the Instagram post which showed her soaking in the British sunshine in front of a scenic backdrop. Ruby went braless for the photoshoot, leaving very left little to the imagination in her scanty outfit. She accessoried her summertime fit with two classy gold necklaces and a pair of hooped earrings to match. Ruby, with her gorgeous brown hair worn up, carried a vibrant green bag in her hand to add even more colour to her sizzling look. The model boasts 91,000 followers on Instagram, some of whom were quick to compliment her on the new slew of pictures. 'What an amazing dress,' commented one, 'I need it!' While another wrote: 'Wow stunning rube_mae, what an amazing photo.' Ruby dated former Tottenham Hotspur and England star Dele, 29, for five years after meeting him in London in 2016. The couple split in 2021, and Ruby Mae later revealed she would never date another footballer. When asked by The Sun whether she would want to be a WAG again, she replied: 'No, no! Oh no. 'There's a negative thing about being called a WAG and I'd prefer not to be called a wag - I have a name - but at the same time, it is a bit of fun really.' During their time together, Ruby and Dele were the victims of a terrifying robbery at the footballer's £2million home which left them fearing for their lives. Masked robbers carrying weapons stole £350,000 from the north London home in a raid which saw them rip the rings off Ruby's ears. Ruby was in bed with the lights off watching Netflix thriller Dead To Me, while Dele and his friends were playing in the pool downstairs when the burglars slipped past security and got in through the back door. After roughing up Dele downstairs, the men forced him upstairs to the wardrobe area which is separate from the bedroom. Dele's friend then came upstairs and into the bedroom looking panicked - causing Ruby to realise something was wrong. He was followed in by an intimidating looking man who started asking Ruby where the valuables were while trying to take off her bracelets and rings. Recalling the horrifying ordeal last year, she told The Sun: 'It was like a movie. I feared all sorts of things were going to happen. 'I honestly didn't know what was going to come next.' Ruby then desperately tried to shield her poodle Uno to protect him from the two robbers but said she was unable to answer the robbers' questions due to the shock. The panic also made her unable to take her jewellery off as she continued to worry they would hurt her beloved pet. However the robbers eventually began to panic once they realised how long they had been at the £2million home in North London. Eventually they jumped the fence at the front gate and ran away with their haul of £350,000 of watches and gems. The police turned up only a few minutes later, but failed to catch the criminals, who remain at large. During the raid, which took place in mid-May 2020, Dele, who was 24 at the time, was badly shaken along with his adoptive brother Harry Hickford, also 24 at the time. Ruby and Dele split in 2021 — less than a year after the raid.

It was my soul actually falling apart, unfortunately, in front of the world, but it was cathartic in a beautiful way.' She and fellow MS patient Sigler launched their MeSsy podcast, to talk about their lives with the illness. Christina said: 'Just some thoughts. When we hold in feelings of despair we give those feelings incredible power. 'Why Jamie and I have our podcast is to air those feelings. 'Raw, honest and triggering. And by just sharing we free ourselves. Never feel alone. There is always an ear somewhere. Love you.'

Friday The 13th's Prequel Series Has Cast Jason's Mom, And I Think We're About To See Another Round Of 'Aunt May' Discourse As A Result

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. There are plenty of ghosts, both pleasant and horrifying, waiting for audiences on the 2025 TV schedule. Sometimes those hauntings come from ideas like Peacock's Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel series that fell on hard times, but has nonetheless persisted. Now that the series has started to chug along in its current form, it appears that the pivotal character of Pamela Voorhees has been cast, and with an actor who's worked on both sides of the cinematic comic aisle. That choice comes with another facet though, as it's unfortunately ripe to inspire some Crystal Lake questions among the fandom that are similar to ones asked of the MCU's Spider-Man. As freshly announced by Deadline, it appears that a deal has closed that will see Dead To Me vet and James Gunn collaborator Linda Cardellini playing one of horror's most infamous mothers. Accompanying that news were these notes on how the character will be portrayed in Crystal Lake: Cardellini's Pamela is believed to be a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son. Spoilers for those who haven't seen Friday the 13th but have somehow landed on this news: Pamela Voorhees is the original killer in this legendary franchise that helped define the slasher subgenre. It's honestly a twist worthy of a Scooby Doo episode, as new fans usually walk in knowing Jason, but find themselves tripped up by his status in the overall arc of the story. It sounds like Crystal Lake will be centered around Linda Cardellini's maternal figure, and the reign of terror she visits upon Camp Crystal Lake in the wake of her son's wrongful death. So much like Bates Motel did for Psycho before it, the backstory before the real bloodletting is going to shape what we see. Though whether or not that focus will be the driving force for the entire series is yet to be determined, as this Peacock subscription teaser's plans are still hiding in the New Jersey woods. Peacock TV: from $7.99 a month/$79.99 a yearSadly, you won't find the many kills of Jason (or Pamela) Voorhees on Peacock. But starting at $7.99 a month, you can creatures, killers, and oddities just as unsettling as the presence that haunts any summer camp you could dream of. Of course, if you opt for Peacock Premium's ad-free tier, you can ditch the commercials for non-stop screaming. View Deal However you don't need to know too much more to realize two things, the first of which is that a largely Jason-less series might rub some fans the wrong way. The second factor is the one we're really here to discuss, as Ms. Cardellini's casting seems almost bound to incur some very MCU flavored discourse ahead. It's been a little over three years since Spider-Man: No Way Home took out Aunt May Parker, and yet Marvel fans still debate Marisa Tomei's casting as the classic Marvel Comics character. With a lot of spectators seeming to question whether an Aunt May can be 'young and hot,' it's a subject that stalks any message board like Jason Voorhees stalks his prey. I fear that Crystal Lake is going to come under fire in the same way, as Linda Cardellini's casting breaks the mold in the same sort of manner. You can practically hear keyboards firing up, ready to call out how the No Good Deed star's looks are some sort of disqualifier for playing the more matronly looking Pamela Voorhees - with or without the machete in hand. As far as I'm concerned, seeing the No Good Deed star cast in another morally complicated role is perfectly fitting. Not to mention if we're really going to call out any cognitive dissonance here, it should be how a former Velma Dinkley will presumably slip on a mask of her own, in the name of dispatching some meddling kids at Camp Crystal Lake. Jinkies doesn't even cut it. I hope that more horror fans see Linda Cardellini as the new Pamela Voorhees for the win it truly is. Her multifaceted talents have brought her from genre to genre, running the gamut of morality throughout. Though we don't know when Crystal Lake will premiere, it will assuredly be at a date that gives the internet plenty of time to debate. While healthy disagreements are fine and well, my fingers are crossed that the Aunt May-style discourse won't be as long lived as what we've seen out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
