Former Bobcat Bonnie's employees say they weren't paid on time

LANSING, (Mich.) WLNS — Bobcat Bonnie's in Lansing is perhaps best known for setting up shop at the historic site where Clara's used to be. However, some former employees say they've had checks bounce repeatedly, even after Bonnie's promised it would never happen again. Nick Deagan, who quit his job at Bonnie's in September of last year, said he hasn't gotten his W-2 yet, but according to Bonnie's, all W-2 forms are available online. Deagan also said he's had multiple paychecks bounce, and while he's caught up now, he wants to make sure everyone else gets paid on time.'I'm just trying to get everybody else their money because I know what's happened at their Ann Arbor and their other locations so it's really unfortunate,' said Deagan. Other Bobcat Bonnie's locations, such as those in Ypsilanti and Ferndale have seen employees voice their frustrations on the picket line, with the Ypsilanti location eventually closing. Former employees said they've all been paid by now, but sometimes it took up to a month for payments to come in. Another ex-employee, Frank Fuentes, said even a small delay can cause a huge headache. 'It at least took them I wanna say at least a day and a half to two days on the first one,' said Fuentes, speaking of the time it took for him to be paid for his bounced check 'I live by myself, I have a dog to take care of and I have rent to pay,' Another former employee who didn't want to go on camera said the problem expanded beyond Bonnie's walls. He said it got to the point where vendors wanted their payments before handing off their product. In a statement to 6 news Bobcat Bonnies said payroll issues are handled as quickly as possible. 'It is a tough time in the restaurant industry,' wrote the restaurant. 'And we hope our loyal Lansing customers will continue to visit us.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
