Maren Morris Gives Update on Coparenting With Ex-Husband Ryan Hurd: ‘Better This Way'

Maren Morris and ex-husband Ryan Hurd eventually found their stride coparenting 5-year-old son Hayes. 'We're over a year out now … [and] we get along now and have moved past a lot of it,' Morris, 35, recalled of her divorce during the Thursday, June 5, episode of the 'Dear Chelsea' podcast. 'We're neighbors, and I'm just so fortunate that we have put our son above each other's s***, and it's better for the two of us if we're getting along.' Morris and Hurd, 38, split in 2023 after five years of marriage. They finalized their divorce in 2024, splitting joint custody of Hayes. 'I'm lucky that we love each other so much still,' Morris, who publicly came out as bisexual following their divorce, gushed. 'We have the highest respect, but also there is that devastation that two people [who] love each other that much can't make it work in the real world. It's always going to be multifaceted.' Maren Morris Details Coparenting With Ex-Husband Ryan Hurd, Gives Post-Split Dating Update She added, 'I think, ultimately, we both knew it was probably going to be better this way, which is a success.' Later on the podcast, Morris reiterated that she and Hurd are 'great coparents.' 'We've let each other go in that romantic sense, even though we still have so much love and history,' Morris said. 'The person you marry is not the person you divorce, and … just the hardest part is knowing that it's not the same.' According to Morris, it was especially helpful that the judge in her and Hurd's divorce case told them 'how to split the coparenting schedule.' Ryan Hurd 'Wasn't Expecting' Maren Morris to File for Divorce 'Out of the Blue' 'That's very bizarre, but also gives me comfort to know that,' she said of the Tennessee legal process. 'The state has given us this split and we have to abide by it, so there's no, 'Well, do you get Easter or do I?' It's in writing, and that takes us and our emotions out of it, which is really helpful for both of us.' She continued, 'I won't say [it is] easy, and we do coparent super well now, but you just have to allow yourself that time to feel all the feelings.' Morris further stated that she 'feels like a woman' following the breakup, which taught her new lessons. 'I love living alone,' she said. 'Love having my space, that's very sacred [and] just not sharing a closet with someone or bathroom counter. I can have all my s*** everywhere. That feels very womanly to me. It's just, like, the liberation of home [and] space in your house, [which] is so nice.'

Chelsea Handler: I'm always giving people unsolicited advice

Chelsea Handler is "always giving people unsolicited advice". The 50-year-old star hosts a podcast called 'Dear Chelsea', and the comedian believes she's perfectly suited to the format. Speaking at the 2025 PHM Healthfront Conference in New York City, Chelsea explained: "I am always giving people unsolicited advice. I always have been, 'What if people actually called in and asked for advice for their life problems?'" Chelsea previously hosted 'Chelsea Lately', a late-night comedy talk show that ran from 2007 until 2014. The TV show saw the comedy star interview a string of well-known celebrities, but Chelsea has always had a desire to "talk to real people". She explained: "When they said I would want you to do a podcast. I was like, yeah, I know, but everyone has a podcast. And I had just come out of a two-year, serious stint in therapy and I thought, 'How can I do something where I'm talking to real people, not celebrities?' "I'm tapped out with that. I need to talk to real people." Meanwhile, Chelsea recently joked that she wants to have "lots of men all over the world". The comedian has previously dated the likes of 50 Cent and Jo Koy - but Chelsea is currently single and feeling "free". Speaking to 'Extra', Chelsea quipped: "I want lots of men all over the world in different areas … I want a port in every call. "I got through the time in your life where many people decide to get married and have children. I look at, like the 20s to the 40s, as a tunnel. I came out of that tunnel. I don't have a child and I don't have a husband. Now, I'm free and can do whatever I want." Chelsea turned 50 in February, and she celebrated the landmark by skiing in a bathing suit and then posting a photo of herself on social media. The TV star said: "I know I've skied topless, I know I have, but I just wanna say that I haven't done a topless video in years because my nephews asked me not to because their friends at college were, you know, seeing it. But I do wear a bikini top, but I just like to ski in my bathing suit and just be free to demonstrate freedom to women … what you can do and how much fun you can have when you listen to who you are."

Chelsea Handler appearing at Whistler writers event May 5

Comedian, author and part-time Whistler resident Chelsea Handler will be doing a reading from her newest book, I'll Have What She's Having, at a Whistler Writers Festival (WWF) event at the Rainbow Theatre on May 5 (7 p.m.). An avid skier, Handler bought a house in the resort community back in 2020. She told The Hollywood Reporter her favourite run is Blackcomb's Arthur's Choice. Handler, whose latest standup special The Feeling is streaming on Netflix now, is known for sharing her life with fans through her standup and memoirs. In her new laugh out loud book, Handler, the author of six consecutive New York Times bestsellers shares a wide range of funny stories including the time as a kid she bolstered sales at her lemonade stand by spiking her product with vodka. She then took her windfall and used it to upgrade herself to a first-class plane seat on a family vacation while the rest of her family sat in coach. There's also a hilarious story about a stoned Handler finding herself at a pickleball game at George W. Bush's family home. During the visit Handler gets a personal art studio tour from the former president himself. 'I'm thrilled that Chelsea is coming to Whistler — she's an inspiration to so many people because of her approach to life and her willingness to share openly and honestly about what matters and the messier aspects of being human,' said Rebecca Wood Barrett, Whistler Writers Festival artistic director. 'From her podcast, Dear Chelsea, to her comedy specials on Netflix, Chelsea is someone who people love hearing from and we get to have her here, in person, talking about the many facets of her writing and work. It's very exciting. 'Chelsea is an inspiration and her writing is smart, insightful, and open,' Wood Barrett said. 'This event is not to be missed.' Aside from writing books and touring her standup show, Handler hosts the podcast Dear Chelsea, now is in its fifth season. Previously, she hosted the late-night talk show Chelsea Lately on the E! network from 2007 to 2014 and released a documentary series, Chelsea Does, on Netflix in January 2016. Chelsea Handler is 'open' to returning to late-night TV but 'wouldn't go after young stars ever again'

Chelsea Lately has been off the air for more than a decade, but if Chelsea Handler was still doing her late-night talk show, she knows the pop culture story she'd be talking about. 'Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni would probably be front and center. I mean, that story just will not go away,' the comedian told Yahoo Entertainment while promoting her Netflix special The Feeling. Handler said 'it's unbelievable' that Baldoni's and Lively's legal disputes over It Ends With Us' are ongoing. 'I just can't believe it. I've already lost interest, actually, and it takes a lot to get me to lose interest,' she joked. Handler is 'open' to returning to late night if 'the right opportunity presented' itself. The Dear Chelsea podcast host envisions a once-a-week program that is 'more political' and 'a lot less about pop culture.' 'But it would be a hybrid,' she explained. 'I don't want to only talk about politics. That's not fun, either. So there has to be some levity, and it has to be about some of the ridiculous stories.' However, Handler said there would be one big difference now than when she was on E! years ago: 'I wouldn't go after young stars ever again. I would go after people who know better and are too old to be still screwing up.' That mindset goes hand-in-hand with what's been a transformative few years for the comedian. Handler recently turned 50 and said she's in a 'phase of injecting optimism and positivity and laughter and joyfulness' into her comedy. If there was one thing she could tell her 30-year-old self, it would be that 'it just keeps getting better.' 'Like everything. It sounds corny and it sounds cliché, but clichés are clichés because they're true. You get more confident, you get more secure, and you give less f***s. Those are all true things. But the most important thing is that you become more present,' she said. 'When you start caring less about the future and less about the past, you are able to be present. And being in the present moment, [those times] are the best providers of unadulterated bliss. Those are the best moments when you are really in them,' Handler continued. 'I'm in my moments a lot more than I was in my 20s and 30s.' For Handler, those moments might mean putting her phone away or choosing to be with a smaller circle of loved ones. 'Are you walking down the street on your phone? Because if you are, you're doing two things badly,' she said. 'I didn't realize the benefit of that until I was in my 40s. But it is a practice. And it is something that I hold myself to a higher standard to now because I understand what that means,' she said. 'And that means, you know, when you get out of a conversation where two people are focused and intentional, and it doesn't matter who it's with, it could be with your gardener. That's a better conversation than if you're doing 15 things at once.' is now streaming on Netflix.
