Bryant Lamont Brown II, 25, of Wayne, was charged with one count of unlawful driving away a motor vehicle. Brown was arraigned on Wednesday and received a $100,000 cash/surety bond. The three children, found abandoned in their car seats, were returned to their mother. Wayne Police Department According to the Wayne Police Department, officers were notified on May 18 of a car theft at a gas station on Michigan Avenue and Venoy Road in Wayne. Police say the mother went into a store to purchase groceries when the suspect took the car. Police located the vehicle in the 27000 block of Cherry Hill in Dearborn Heights, and the suspect was getting in and out of the vehicle. Police say moments later, dispatch received a call about children crying in the parking lot of a business two miles away in the area of Middlebelt Road and Grandview in Inkster. Officers located a 3-year-old and two 18-month-old twins in their car seats. The children were not hurt, police say. The suspect, later identified as Brown, was taken into custody.

A Detroit man has been charged in a double shooting that happened Sunday in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Ashante Linelli-Ramon McAfee, 48, of Detroit, was charged in connection with the shooting that injured a 39-year-old Dearborn Heights woman and a 41-year-old Ecorse man, according to a press release from Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. The charges are two counts assault with intent to murder, two counts felonious assault, discharge in or at a building causing serious injury, home invasion-first degree, felon in possession of a firearm, domestic violence and seven counts of felony firearm. McAfee had an arraignment hearing in 20th District Court. Bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety with a GPS tether. A probable cause conference is scheduled for May 28. McAfee is the former boyfriend of the Dearborn Heights woman, the press release said. The emergency call about a shooting was made about 10:32 a.m. Sunday, sending officers to a home in the 4100 block of Weddel Street in Dearborn Heights. Upon arrival, police first found the male victim down the street from that location, with a gunshot wound to a kneecap. He had called 911. The female victim was found inside a bedroom of her home on that block, with gunshot wounds to her right thigh, left knee, left chest, and right hand. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect drove off in a white Ford F-150. Investigation by the Dearborn Heights Police Department led to an arrest later that day. The video above previously aired on May 18.

According to the Highland Park Police Department, Vincent Weaver, 29, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and misdemeanor indecent exposure. He was arraigned on Monday. Weaver, who taught at George Washington Carver Academy, was arrested on Friday, May 16. Police say that at the time of the arrest, he was dressed in disguise to avoid being recognized by staff. Highland Park Police Department Authorities allege that he engaged in sexual misconduct with the student when they were between the ages of 10 and 12. Weaver joined the school staff in August 2023 as a fine arts teacher and also served as the coach of the school's dance team. He was fired in May 2025, according to police. The school issued the following statement on Monday: "George Washington Carver Academy was recently made aware of an incident involving a teacher and student. We immediately notified law enforcement, placed the employee on suspension, and after an internal investigation, terminated their employment and removed them from campus. "We are fully cooperating with the Highland Park Police in their ongoing investigation and please ask that you direct any further inquiries to them. "Our immediate, top priority and focus remains the safety and well-being of our students and their families, and we are committed to supporting them with appropriate resources during this time. "Thank you for your continued trust and support."

The case involves the shooting death of James Wilkins on June 8, 2023, in an apartment in Warren. Donald Dawan Renfroe, age 26, entered his plea on the case Monday in Macomb County Circuit Court, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced in a press release. The prosecutor's office said Renfroe along with an accomplice, Darius Glenn, concealed the crime. Wilkins was reported missing. Warren Police detectives found evidence in the apartment that indicated a shooting had taken place there. The body was discovered five months later; both Redfro and Glenn were charged. Glenn testified against Renfroe at a preliminary exam held April 26 as part of plea bargain for his case, the prosecutor's office said. Renfro's no contest plea was to the following charges: Homicide-second degree of James Wilkins, a felony punishable for life or any number of years. Tampering with evidence, a felony punishable up to 10 years. Concealing the death of an individual, a felony punishable up to five-years Felony firearm, a felony punishable with a two-year mandatory consecutive sentence. Sentencing will take place July 7. "Mr. Wilkin's life was cut short in the very dwelling that should have been his safe place. My office stands as the voice of the victim to bring justice to this horrible act that stole this victim's life and destroyed a family," Lucido said in his statement on the case.

The accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. in the 12700 block of Hubbell Street, near Interstate 96, the Detroit Police Department reported. The fatality was the moped operator, an adult male who struck a Dodge Durango. Medics took the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Additional details were not available.
