Deatrich Wise Jr. speaks on Laremy Tunsil, Quinn's culture, best trait, and more
First-year Commanders defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. has been very enthusiastic this offseason after spending his first eight NFL seasons with the New England Patriots. Wise has had plenty of success and winning seasons with the Patriots, winning a Super Bowl in his second season in the league. Wise joined us on the latest Trap or Dive podcast; he knows he joined Washington at a great time, coming off a 12-win regular season and knocking at the doorstep of a Super Bowl bid. However, his unit has had its fair share of concerns after the season and has endured noticeable turnover this offseason. Washington bought Wise in to help turn around a poor run defense and provide a better edge presence, but he also feels like a well-balanced defender due to his ability to pressure the quarterback. He feels very confident in his unit's ability to make significant strides with the overall collective talent within his position group. Former Patriots Captain Deatrich Wise Jr. agrees to deal with NFC team
Former Patriots Captain Deatrich Wise Jr. agrees to deal with NFC team Former New England Patriots defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with the Washington Commanders, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Wise was a Patriots mainstay on the defense for eight years. He was drafted by the team in 2017 and went on to record 314 combined tackles and 34 sacks during his time in New England. In 2024, he recorded 29 tackles and five sacks on the year. Wise will now have a chance to compete on a Commanders team that made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game last season. He'll be rejoining his longtime Patriots teammate, Jonathan Jones, who also agreed to a one-year deal with the team. Like Jones, Wise leaving the Patriots represents the end of an era considering he was one of the few remaining players from the Super Bowl-winning era. If anything, this week has been a reminder of how quickly things can change.
