NTPC Kayamkulam celebrates World Environment Day

NTPC Kayamkulam celebrated World Environment Day with initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental awareness on Thursday. A plantation drive was organised to mark the occasion. Debdutta Sinha, head of project, NTPC Kayamkulam, and Mangala Hareendran, head of human resources, administered the environment day pledge to participants. Keeping in line with this year's theme #BeatPlasticPollution, Anand Malak, assistant general manager (O and M/Solar), called for reduced plastic usage and encouraged employees to adopt eco-friendly practices. As part of the green initiative, coconut saplings were planted on the NTPC campus by employees, family members, children and Central Industrial Security Force personnel.

Workshop impart life skills to girls

The month-long Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) workshop-2025, organised for girls under the aegis of NTPC- Kayamkulam, concluded recently. Thirty-eight students from 10 government schools in five villages — Arattupuzha, Chingoli, Cheppad, Pallipad and Karthikapally — attended the workshop, which aimed to nurture the potential of underprivileged girls and promote gender equality. Sessions, activites The participants engaged in a wide range of sessions and activities designed to build life skills and boost confidence. These included classes on fire safety, health and hygiene, yoga and computers, as well as sessions focussed on personality development. Teachers also conducted sessions on 'Good Touch-Bad Touch' to empower the girls and promote self-reliance. Recreational activities such as weekend movie screenings, picnic, magic show, and fashion show added to the excitement. Speaking at the valedictory session, Debdutta Sinha, head of project, NTPC - Kayamkulam, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in shaping an inclusive and progressive society. 'The Girl Empowerment Mission reflects NTPC's vision of nurturing talent and building future leaders by providing equal opportunities,' Mr. Sinha said. NTPC organised the GEM workshop as part of its CSR initiative.
