Mayor to declare City of Charleston as ‘pinwheel city'
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) –City of Charleston Mayor William Cogswell is set to declare the city as a 'pinwheel city' next week to raise awareness of child abuse.
Charleston officials are partnering with the Children's Trust of South Carolina and Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center during April, which is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The declaration will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Colonial Lake, with Mayor Cogswell, Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker, and leaders from the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center and Children's Trust of South Carolina in attendance.
As part of the partnership, the advocacy center will plant pinwheel gardens all around the city to spread awareness of child abuse prevention efforts in the Lowcountry.
