It's Personal, Said UP Woman. But Railway Cops Opened Her Bag Anyway And Found...

Last Updated: RPF found illegal liquor in a woman's bag at Jhansi station. She was detained under Operation Vigilant, which has uncovered 15 smuggling cases this year A woman was recently apprehended at a railway station in the Jhansi division of Uttar Pradesh while attempting to transport a suspiciously heavy bag. When personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) questioned her about the contents, she casually responded, 'Just personal belongings, nothing to show." However, her nervous demeanour raised red flags, prompting officials to inspect the bag. What they discovered left them stunned—a large quantity of illegal liquor was concealed inside. The woman was immediately detained by the RPF and later handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP). Initial investigations revealed that she was part of an illegal liquor smuggling operation. Authorities believe the liquor had been brought in from other states for unlawful distribution via the railway network. This arrest marks another significant achievement under Operation Vigilant, an ongoing initiative aimed at curbing smuggling through Indian Railways. In the 2024–25 financial year alone, the operation has uncovered 15 liquor smuggling cases, leading to 17 arrests. The campaign has also unearthed other illegal activities. So far, authorities have seized 136.017 kilograms of silver worth approximately Rs 13.73 lakh, along with undisclosed amounts of gold and unaccounted cash. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Deepak Kumar Sinha stressed that the railway system cannot be allowed to become a conduit for illegal activities. He confirmed that strict checks and routine surveillance are being carried out to prevent the transport of smuggled goods, including liquor, precious metals, and cash.
