Gallery of fame at Mahamaya stadium to honour athletes from Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: A 'gallery of fame' featuring Ghaziabad's top-performing athletes is set to come up at the Mahamaya Sports Stadium as part of a district-level initiative to promote sports and motivate budding players. District magistrate Deepak Meena has directed the sports department to set up the gallery and also replace cash awards for athletes with customised sports equipment to support their long-term development. District sports officer Poonam Bishnoi said that the gallery will be prominently located at the entrance of the stadium. "It will be the first thing athletes see when they enter the stadium. The idea is to greet every player with stories of excellence and perseverance that have emerged from our own district. It will include framed portraits, brief biographies, and highlights of achievements of athletes who made Ghaziabad proud at national and international levels," Bishnoi said. Among those set to be featured here is Simran Sharma, a visually-impaired para athlete who won a bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024 and was conferred the Arjuna Award the same year. Also to be featured are Lakshay Phogat, who clinched a silver medal at the Asian U-15 Boxing Championships in Jordan this April, and javelin thrower Pradeep Yadav of Modinagar, who bagged a silver at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like O novo dispositivo que os idosos usam para ajudar na neuropatia (dor nos nervos) A arte do herbalismo Undo Yadav, who has a motor disability, also received the Uttar Pradesh Laxman Award earlier this year. "I am extremely honoured to be part of the gallery. It's a proud moment and I hope it encourages more para athletes to aim high," he told TOI. The gallery's construction is part of a larger renovation plan for the stadium. TOI earlier reported that the state govt allocated Rs 16 crore for the stadium's overhaul in the last financial year. A detailed project report was prepared, tenders were awarded, and renovation work is set to begin soon. In a significant policy shift, the DM also said that, instead of cash prizes ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000, athletes will now receive high-quality equipment suited to their discipline. "For instance, a badminton player might receive a professional-grade racket set. This will help them train more effectively," said Bishnoi.

Govt's action against unregistered gyms, pools spurs UP govt's revenue

Noida: Enforcement drives against unregistered gyms and swimming pools have earned UP govt 34% more revenue in the last two months compared to the same period last fiscal year. The district development and sports promotion committee has collected Rs 1.5 crore in April-May, up from its Rs 1.1 crore earnings the previous year. Officials said there was an increase in registrations of sports facilities, from under 20 in 2020 annually to over 1,300 this fiscal year. Of these facilities, 350 are gyms and 600 are pools. Anita Nagar, district sports officer, told TOI that the increased revenue has allowed the committee to reinvest in local sports infrastructure and athlete support, as 50 promising athletes have been awarded sports kits and cash prizes. She added that a boxing ring was installed at Dujana Stadium, and a badminton and volleyball court were constructed at Girls and Boys Correction Homes, respectively. Meanwhile, in Ghaziabad, district magistrate Deepak Meena chaired a meeting issued a set of directives aimed at streamlining sports development with a focus on regular monthly competitions, facility upgrades. A joint survey of the land by Airports Authority of India and civil aviation ministry is now lined up. As flight operations began on 12 routes, including the metro cities, earlier this year, the terminal witnessed a daily average footfall of 600 passengers, which is likely to reach its saturation point of 700–800 daily Wednesday, an AAI official told TOI the terminal building would be expanded to add taxi bays and improve other passenger amenities, like parking capacity, and an estimated five acres would be required for the civil terminal was developed in 2017 after seven acres (22,250 sqm) of land from Sikandarpur, next to the IAF base, was acquired to start the commercial flight operations that could effectively reduce the burden on Delhi's IGI Airport till the Noida International Airport took shape. Ghaziabad board to meet next week to discuss master plan, land rates for new township

GHAZIABAD : GDA board is likely to approve the rates for acquiring 336.8 hectares of land for the first phase of the Harnandipuram township near Delhi-Meerut Expressway in its meeting next week. In March, a six-member committee headed by district magistrate Deepak Meena announced compensation at four times the existing circle rates for farmers in Mathurapur, Shamsher, Champatnagar, Bhanera-Khurd and Nangla Feroze Mohan Nagar, whose land is to be acquired for the township. With circle rates different, the compensation structure is likely to vary across villages. In Mathurapur, where 14.6 hectares are to be acquired, farmers will receive Rs 4,080 per sqm against the current rate of Rs 1,020. In Shamsher, where 86.5 hectares are needed, farmers will get Rs 6,760 per sqm, up from the existing Rs 1,690. Champatnagar farmers, who will part with 33.9 hectares, will receive Rs 4,040 per sqm compared to the current Rs 1,010. For Bhanera-Khurd's 9 hectares, the compensation rate was proposed at Rs 4,240 per sqm, increased from Rs 1,060. The largest land acquisition of 192.6 hectares from Nangla Feroze Mohan Nagar will be compensated at Rs 7,200 per sqm, up from Rs 1,800. The revised layout of Madhuban Bapudham is also likely to be cleared by the board. Over 300 plots in the township, which were sold by the development authority as park-facing but were on crematorium land, are to be reallotted. "The allottees, who for about 10 years have been demanding they be given plots elsewhere, will now be given plots elsewhere," a GDA official said. The Master Plan 2031 draft will also be tabled before the board before it is implemented. "The GDA board has reviewed the draft plan on at least four occasions, but for one reason or another, it kept going back and forth. It is a mere formality this time," the official said. Once cleared by the board, the draft will be sent to the state govt for notification. PAHAL (Public Access for Housing and Allotment Login) portal, which GDA plans to introduce for ease of doing business, is also likely to be taken up in the meeting. The scheme aims to provide property details of consumers in one place, for which a unique ID is assigned to every property.
