US administration will cut Ukraine military budget: Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth
Washington, June 11 (UNI) The current US administration will cut its military budget for Ukraine next year, said US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Hegseth shared the surprising info during a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives Defence Subcommittee, which sparked discussions among many experts and analysts.
"It is a reduction in this (upcoming defence) budget," Hegseth told lawmakers, "This administration takes a very different view of that conflict,' reports Politico.
'The budget includes cuts. This administration has a completely different perspective on this conflict. We believe that a peaceful resolution through negotiations will be in the interest of both sides and in the interest of our country, especially given the numerous global challenges.'
"We believe that a negotiated peaceful settlement is in the best interest of both parties and our nation's interests, especially with all the competing interests around the globe," he said.
So far, the United States has provided Ukraine more than $66 billion in aid since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine broke out in February 2022, according to U.S. media reports, as per Xinhua.
While the officials in Washington have continued to provide Ukraine with arsenal – as was approved under the previous Joe Biden administration and cleared by Congress - the Trump administration has not announced any fresh assistance, with the US President making no secret his disdain for Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he has blamed for the war.
