Harry Potter Series Officially Finds Its Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall and More — See the Full Cast So Far
Accio long-awaited casting news! After weeks of speculation, HBO on Monday confirmed the first six actors to join its upcoming Harry Potter series, including some key Hogwarts hires. Other series-regular additions include Janet McTeer (Ozark) as Transfiguration professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) as Potions master Severus Snape and Nick Frost (Into the Badlands) as Hogwarts groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid. On the recurring front, Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show) will play curmudgeonly caretaker Argus Filch, and British stage vet Luke Thallon will appear as poor, stuttering Quirinus Quirrell, who teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts during Harry's first year at Hogwarts. 'We're delighted to have such extraordinary talent on board, and we can't wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.' HBO's Harry Potter series, which begins production in Summer 2025, is described as a 'faithful adaptation' of J.K. Rowling's popular novels, 'full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have adored for over 25 years,' per the official synopsis. There's currently no firm timetable for the show's premiere, though it could arrive as late as 2027.
