Test your might in forehead flicking with Decopin Buster
No need to use your head anymore for this simple game. On 15 December 2023, baseball phenom Shohei Ohtani held his first press conference as a member of the LA Dodgers. It was a joyous event for the future World Series winning team and Ohtani's spirits were also high as he introduced his pet dog to the world. Perhaps in honor of his international success, his dog actually has two names 'Decoy' in English and 'Dekopin' in Japanese. ▼ Decoy/Dekopin has been a regular fixture in Dodger Stadium ever since. The word ' dekopin ' is a combination of the words ' deko ' which can mean 'forehead' and ' pin ' which is very similar to the English word 'ping' to simulate a sharp impact, making ' dekopin ' translate to something like 'forehead ping.' It's a common act of playful childhood roughhousing along the lines of noogies and could be used as punishment for losing a game like rock, paper, scissors. The euphoria at the time surrounding Ohtani's new home, recent marriage, and adorable dog spread like wildfire in Japan. The craze got so big that even Hac Co., Ltd. in Osaka, the maker of Dekopin Buster, or 'Decopin Buster' as they stylize it, benefitted without having anything at all to do with Ohtani or his dog. ▼ Right now, I can hear you thinking, 'You don't mean the same Hac that makes the remote control turds, do you?' Yes, the very same. As Dekopin fever took hold, a lot of attention fell on Decopin Buster. It was featured in several YouTube videos and sold like hot cakes might have if they were called 'dekopin cakes.' Hac was only now finally able to produce more Decopin Busters and released them again on 18 June for 4,680 yen (US$32) each. Decopin Buster works just like one of those punching machines found in bars or game centers, only instead of punching the padded arm, you must flick it hard enough to get a high score. It also comes with mission cards and penalty cards to add some depth to competitive dekopinning. We actually got a Decopin Buster in a Village Vanguard lucky bag similar to this one, back during its original run in late 2023. However, batteries were sold separately so we couldn't test it in time for the article. It looked pretty fun though. Worry no longer about your next game of paper football or marbles. With Decopin Buster you can hone your flicks to levels never thought possible. I did and now every time I flick a mosquito off my arm, it completely atomizes. Shohei Ohtani homers in third straight bobblehead night as part of Dodgers onslaught
The Los Angeles Dodgers gave out a Shohei Ohtani bobblehead on Thursday showcasing their superstar stealing a base, in celebration of his unprecedented 50-50 season. He flashed the other part of that accomplishment during the game. The reigning NL MVP hit two homers in the first four innings as part of a 15-run Dodgers onslaught against the Athletics, tying him for the MLB lead in homers with 15. First, he took a ball from A's reliever Jason Alexander 382 feet to the opposite field (video above). Advertisement And then he took Alexander 418 feet to center field. It's been another hot start for Ohtani this season, as he's now slashing .313/.413/.681 plus 10 stolen bases and an MLB-best 48 runs after the second homer. He is currently on pace to post 55 homers and 39 stolen bases, which would be historic had it not been for what he did one year ago. If Ohtani homering on his bobblehead night sounds familiar to you, it's because this is the third straight time he's gone deep on a bobblehead night. Last season, he hit led off the game with his 42nd homer of the season, just as his 50-50 campaign was really heating up. The Dodgers had been giving away a bobblehead featuring Ohtani and his dog Dekopin that night, with Dekopin throwing an adorable first pitch. The next bobblehead night came early this season, with Ohtain hitting a walk-off homer to make the Dodgers the first reigning World Series champion to begin a season with eight straight wins. So this was the second Ohtani bobblehead night of the season. The bad news for the Dodgers' opponents on Aug. 27 and Sept. 10 is that he has two more scheduled for those days, as part of a 21-bobblehead lineup on the Dodgers' promotional schedule this year. Advertisement Ohtani is doing all this while still recovering from the elbow surgery he underwent at the end of the 2023 season. His return time remains hazy, as his offseason rehab was thrown off after tearing the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder during the 2024 World Series. He's mostly thrown bullpens this season, but remains roughly a couple months away from taking the mound again. As long as he's still hitting homers, the Dodgers probably aren't going to worry about that side of his game too much.

Parts of Japan blanketed by thick snow during strongest cold front for years
Large parts of Japan have been blanketed with snow, as the lowest temperatures this winter disrupted rail and air travel, amid warnings that more heavy snowfall was expected through the weekend. Residents struggled to dig out cars that had been buried by snow in just a few hours, with the meteorological agency describing the cold front as the 'strongest in several years'. Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island and the Japan Sea coast have been hardest hit, forcing domestic airlines to cancel flights between cities in the region and Tokyo. Train services in parts of central Japan were also cancelled, according to the Kyodo news agency. The snow closed several roads, prompting officials to urge motorists to fit snow tyres. The town of Shirakawa in Gifu prefecture saw 129 cm of snowfall in just 48 hours – a record high, the meteorological agency said, while snowfall reached almost a metre in depth in Joetsu, Niigata prefecture, and Honbestu in Hokkaido. The weather agency said extremely unstable atmospheric conditions would generate significant amounts of snowfall in the coming days, including in regions along the Pacific coast, where snowfall is rare. Officials urged people in regions where heavy snow is forecast to avoid non-essential outings. Unusually warm weather throughout January had, ironically, caused anxiety among organisers of this year's snow festival in Sapporo, where about 200 ice and snow sculptures went on display this week. When local people began creating the sculptures last month, the snow barely covered roads in Sapporo, Hokkaido's biggest city, forcing organisers to import enough snow to fill 2,500 10-tonne trucks from other towns in the region. The most eye-catching creations include the Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani and his dog Dekopin, and a 12m-high re-creation of the former Hokkaido prefectural government building. About 80% of the works were made by citizen sculptors.
