Award-winning Matto Pizza, with locations in Morningside, Newington and Meadowbank, recently announced a new concept for customers to enjoy their wood-fired pizzas within a social setting. Social by Matto is set to open on Shandwick Place offering "good vibes, great plates and a space to stay a while." Matto first opened in Meadowbank in 2020 and after gaining popularity among foodies and fans of authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas, the team opened a larger restaurant in Morningside in 2021. In 2023 a third eatery opened in Newington and the team have now set their sights on the West End with their fourth spot opening in the summer. Posters advertising the new restaurant have already appeared in the window of the former La Piazza unit and internal work is officially underway after it closed down last year. Taking to Instagram the team at Matto posted: "Something new is cooking…Say hello to Social by Matto - our boldest bite yet. "Good vibes, great plates, and a space to stay a while. Landing Summer 2025. Ready to get Social?" Matto is currently nominated for Best Pizza in Scotland at the 2025 Deliveroo Restaurant Awards, having taken top spot in 2024.

Coishi in Southampton wins prize at Deliveroo Awards 2025
First launched in 2018, Deliveroo's Restaurant Awards celebrate and recognise the very best and most-loved restaurants across the country. This ranges from local independent burger joints to neighbourhood sushi restaurants and "all the dishes, cuisines, and flavours in between". This year saw a total of 65 awards up for grabs, with more than 160,000 votes cast by fans keen to show support for their favourite local restaurants. A judging panel formed by Deliveroo's CEO and founder, Will Shu, food critic and journalist Jimi Famurewa, and TV Chef and personality Tilly Ramsay also helped decide the winners. In the South of England and Wales region, Coishi picked up the award for Best Japanese Restaurant. The full list of winners at the 2025 Deliveroo Restaurant Awards can be found on the website here. Coishi named best Japanese restaurant in the South of England and Wales Located on Above Bar Street, Coishi offers a mix of sushi and bento dishes for diners. According to the Visit Southampton website, it also has a range of "meticulously cooked hot dishes" and "refreshing bubble tea crafted with care". It adds: "Coishi delivers a range of delectable, nutritious fare and top-notch beverages at accessible prices. "Embraced by the Southampton community, Coishi stands out for its modern comfort food and unparalleled fusion flavours, inviting guests to savour a truly memorable culinary journey." It has overall been well-received by diners, with it earning a 4.4/5 score on Google Reviews from 439 ratings. One person wrote: "Pretty authentic Asian food, the Bento Boxes were excellent, the sushi is great. The menu has a lot of choice, all the food looked good. "Service was good, order and pay at the counter, the place has the usual cheap looking white plastic tables and chairs & doesn't look like anything special, but the food is great, certainly worth trying." Recommended reading: Another said: "Been coming here for years now and it never fails to always be amazing! The staff are lovely here and the food is great, I would say one of the best sushi places in Southampton." A third shared: "This time I ordered stewed beef brisket and Japanese curry chicken rice, which was really delicious. The chicken and beef were very tender, the sauce was super fragrant, and the rice was also very soft and sticky. "I highly recommend this restaurant, the environment is very clean, and the staff are very enthusiastic."

Oxfordshire restaurant 'full of flavour' among UK's best in Deliveroo Awards
An Oxford restaurant has been named among Deliveroo's top places to eat in its 2025 awards. SHIN Ramen, in Gloucester Green, was a finalist in the food delivery service's Independent Restaurant of the Year category. This year saw a total of 65 awards up for grabs, with more than 160,000 votes cast by fans keen to show support for their favourite local restaurants. SHIN Ramen was featured among the best in the south east and Midlands region. Taking to Tripadvisor, customers are quick to commend the restaurant for its service and fresh food. One reviewer said: 'This is the most underrated place. 'What amazing food, never heard of the place before, would go back again and again. 'Debby and Alayna were stars, and the service was fab.' Another added: 'Food was served quickly, it was full of flavour. 'I recommend the lobster ramen. The ramen with fried chicken on the side also had delicious spices in the batter.' Deliveroo's Restaurant Awards celebrate and recognise the best and most-loved restaurants across the country – from local independent burger joints to neighbourhood sushi restaurants and all the dishes, cuisines, and flavours in between. A Deliveroo spokesperson said: 'Whether they're slinging perfect pizzas at 2am or crafting those fancy, envy-of-the-office poké bowls, we're so excited to reveal our culinary champions of the year.' Albany Fish Bar in the Roath area of the capital city has won at this year's Deliveroo Restaurant of the Year Awards. Open since 1967, the Albany Road institution has won the Best Fish & Chips accolade in South England and Wales, which covered five different areas. Passionate food enthusiasts were able to cast their votes to support their favourite neighbourhood eateries, with Albany Fish Bar coming out on top. First launched in 2019, the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards were created to celebrate the best local restaurants and takeaways available on Deliveroo across the UK and Ireland. This is the second time the Cardiff restaurant's loyal customers' voting has had them win Deliveroo's Best Fish and Chips award. Over 160,000 votes were cast by Deliveroo fans over three weeks to crown around 50 regional cuisine-led winners from Best Fish & Chips and beyond. Votes were cast across five regions in the UK and Ireland, which were London, South England & Wales, North England & East Midlands, Scotland and Ireland, by food lovers keen to show their support for their favourite local restaurants. The team at Albany Fish Bar described their win as "incredible". In a statement, they said: "Wow, we've won! Five Liverpool takeaways named among best in the UK by Deliveroo
Five Liverpool takeaways have been named among the UK's best at the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards. Bundobust and Yum Cha were among 10 winners from North England and the Midlands. Bundobust on Bold Street won the award for Best Indian and Nepalese in the region. The restaurant also has locations in Manchester and Leeds. Lark Lane's Yum Cha, which also has a location in Manchester, won Best Chinese. It was also nominated for Regional Restaurant of the Year. In 2022, it was included in the prestigious Observer Food Monthly list which is released annually, coming in at number 20. Yum Cha is part of the new generation of Chinese restaurants that takes the traditional and puts a modern twist on it. The restaurant serves dishes such as dim sum and roasted meats acting as the menu's top items. The Regional Restaurant of the Year at the Deliveroo Awards was Get Baked, which is in Leeds and Manchester. The National Independent Restaurant of the Year is CRUNCH in Old Spitalfields Market, London. Multiple Merseyside venues were nominated for the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards. They are as follows: Regional Restaurant of the Year Shortlist - North England & Midlands: Yum Cha Best Indian & Nepalese: Bundobust Best Chinese: Yum Cha Best Chicken: Spitroast Best Breakfast & Coffee: Ezra and Gil Best Pan Asian: Zumuku Sushi Spitroast has a restaurant on Smithdown Road and a second on South Road in Waterloo, both of which have a loyal following. The restaurant is also popular with footballers, and Jamie Carragher has previously been spotted at the Crosby venue. Before heading to Liverpool, Ezra and Gil was known across Manchester's Northern Quarter as one of the "busiest" brunch and coffee shops around. The company launched its first local site last year, occupying the unit previously used by Bouchon. Zumuku Sushi brings authentic Japanese cuisine to Lark Lane. The restaurant was founded in Wilmslow with the menu comprising of a range of sushi platters and hot foods. Deliveroo recruited Tilly Ramsay - Celebrity MasterChef finalist and daughter of Gordon Ramsay – to the judging panel alongside Deliveroo founder Will Shu and food critic Jimi Famurewa. Will Shu said the awards are all about spotlighting the restaurants that keep our towns and cities buzzing. He said: "These restaurants are the beating heart of our communities. "They obsess over making sure every food delivery is a special moment for our customers – that's something worth celebrating.'
