The Michigan State Spartans have upped the ante in regards to their recruitment class of 2026. They now rest at No. 26 overall in the NCAA with their current group of commits.

Looking well ahead to the group of rising juniors colleges have recently been allowed to legally contact, head coach Jonathan Smith had a class of 2027 commit to put him and the Spartans in good standings for the future.
But it's not always smooth sailing, and the Spartans found that out the hard way.

The four-star prospect from Tustin, Calif. is a well-sought out recruit from his class. Ranked No. 201 overall, No. 21 among safeties, and No. 19 out of California, it's no surprise that Khalil Terry already received 32 offers.
Terry committed to the Spartans on Dec. 1, 2024, but with former cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin leaving for UCLA, Michigan State now lacked a strong tie to Terry's home state.

Whether this was a highly motivating factor for the safety to back down from his commitment or not, Terry announced that he is reopening his commitment.

"With so many options, and after discussing it with my family, I have decided to de-commit from Michigan State. We feel it is in my best interest to open up my recruitment and take a look at all of my options," he wrote in a post on X. "I only get one shot at this, so I want to make sure I'm making the right decision for the long term."
Of his 32 offers as of now, the Spartans will have conference competition with Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, USC, Washington, and Nebraska for the four-star safety.
