Italian feminist designer Maria Grazia Chiuri leaves Dior
The revolution in the European fashionworld continues. After the arrival of Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia at Gucci and Pierpaolo Piccioli at Balenciaga, as well as the departure of Donatella Versace, who sold the historic brand to the Prada group, a new change of chair has been announced by Dior today. Italian artistic director Maria Grazia Chiri is leaving the French maison of the LVMH group after nine years. "After nine years I am leaving Dior. I am delighted to have been given this extraordinary opportunity. Together we have written a great page of which I am immensely proud," Chiuri wrote in a note released on Thursday. The designer presented her latest collection on Tuesday in Rome in the gardens of Villa Albani. The fashion show was celebrated with a standing ovation and drew rave reviews from the press. "I express my heartfelt thanks to Maria Grazia Chiuri, who, since her arrival at Dior, has done an extraordinary job with a stimulating feminist perspective and exceptional creativity, all permeated by the spirit of Monsieur Dior, which has allowed her to design collections of great prestige. She has written a key chapter in the history of Christian Dior, contributing significantly to its extraordinary growth and being the first woman to lead the creation of women's collections," wrote Christian Dior Couture president and CEO Delphine Arnault on the fashion house's X account. It has not yet been announced who will replace Chiuri at the helm of the brand, but it is likely to be Jonathan Anderson, who replaced Kim Jones at the helm of Dior Homme since April. He could become the first designer to lead both the men's and women's collections of the Parisian fashion house.

Lamborghini Links Up With Balenciaga on Pricey Designer Clothes
A collab that's a bit of a no-brainer With asking prices hovering well into six-figure USD territory, it would be fair to assume that many of the buyers of the legendary Italian sports car powerhouse Lamborghini are some fairly discerning individuals who like stylish and cool clothes as well. Though it may seem that they operate in completely separate worlds, the most prominent players in fashion and cars often collaborate, or at the very least, find lots of inspiration from each other. For example, Ralph Lauren frequently incorporates automotive themes into his work and has a museum-worthy collection of rare classic motors. 0:04 / 0:09 Audi A5 replaces A4: So, what's changed? Watch More From the runway to the raceway Originally teased on the runway at Paris Fashion Week in March, Balenciaga, one of the oldest names in fashion, is formally rolling out its collaboration with Lamborghini with a wide collection of ready-to-wear clothes and accessories. The collection itself blends elements of Lamborghini's high-performance automotive aesthetics with the avant-garde (and often controversial) stylings of creative director Demna Gvasalia. Clothing pieces include the typical Balenciaga fare that Denma has made notorious, including super-oversized racing and bomber jackets with Lamborghini branding, graphic t-shirts and hoodies featuring Lamborghini Temerario artwork, and distressed baseball caps. The collection also includes Lamborghini-branded wallets and card holders, as well as special versions of some of Balenciaga's well-known leather bags. These include the large Rodeo handbag, the Hourglass pocket-sized handbag, the Explorer backpack, and the Carrie bag, which are adorned with Automobili Lamborghini Shield emblems and/or charms. As for accessories, Balenciaga injects Lamborghini branding into some avant-garde and camp pieces. Highlights include necklaces and handbag charms styled to look like Temerario car fobs, Lamborghini Temerario and Balenciaga shoelace bracelets, Lamborghini-branded western belts, signet rings, and leather travel neck pillows. These clothes won't come cheap The collection is available for purchase at select Balenciaga stores worldwide and on its website, but buyers should be warned that the price tags on the items from the collaboration between Balenciaga and Lamborghini will make some casual observers feel like they're buying an actual Lamborghini. The cool oversized T-shirt with Lamborghini Temerario artwork on the model costs $750, while a hoodie featuring the Lamborghini logo costs $1,090. The priciest clothing item in the collection is a black leather oversized bomber jacket that retails at $7,590. The priciest item overall is the large Rodeo handbag, which costs $8,500 and comes with decorative Lamborghini charms. On the other hand, the least costly item offered is a $125 'Automobili Lamborghini Travel Mug,' a porcelain cup styled to look like a to-go coffee cup. Final thoughts As someone who likes to dabble in fashion as a hobby, I feel that the link between Lamborghini and Balenciaga complements each other, given the respective brand images they have created. Lamborghini is not a stranger to lending its logos and aesthetics to well-known fashion brands; in 2020, it was tapped by the notorious New York City-based skate brand Supreme. To celebrate the launch of the new collection, Lamborghini will display Revueltos with Balenciaga graffiti decals outside flagship stores in major cities such as Paris, Shanghai, New York, Miami, Tokyo, Dubai, and Seoul. Additionally, special Lamborghini art pieces will be exhibited in select stores. Automobili Lamborghini driving simulators by Vesaro, which use real Lamborghini components, will also be installed in Balenciaga flagships in Paris, London, and Shanghai.

Pierpaolo Piccioli Named New Balenciaga Creative Director
Pierpaolo Piccioli, the new Creative Director of Balenciaga Pierpaolo Piccioli made romantic, culturally-rich waves at Valentino. He was the brand's creative director from 2008 to 2024, redefining what it means to be a modern day courtuier. But now that he has been appointed as the Creative Director of Balenciaga starting July 10, what does this mean for Balenciaga, which has become a sort of art house brand with conceptual statements that may better fit on a podium of the Museum of Modern Art? Who can forget the 2023 'towel skirt' that was wrapped around the waist? Or the trash bag pouch made of calfskin leather, or their IKEA look-alike tote bag in bright blue. Or the many renditions of their Pant Boots, from the classic black to the thigh-high stocking style, which triggered adverse reactions. Not to mention their headline-grabbing controversies, like when they went too far and had to apologize for an advertising campaign with children holding teddy bears in bondage, which many said went too far. But how will Piccioli restore the brand to a traditional European design house after Demna Gvasalia's experimental years, which brought pop culture and streetwear into the high fashion brand's luxury ethos? How will he redefine Baleciaga's accessories, namely their handbags, shoes and jewelry? And how will Piccioli shape Balenciaga's vision with that Valentino touch, while remaining in line with the legacy of Cristóbal Balenciaga and his historic Parisian fashion house? As he wrote in a public letter regarding his appointment, Piccioli recalls a moment on Instagram. 'Every new story has a lot to do with the path that brought us there, the humans we are now and the experiences we have already lived. I'm not a big fan of predestination but as I was scrolling my personal IG page, I realised that the very first picture I've uploaded was the 1967 wedding ensemble by Cristóbal Balenciaga. Don't know if I should take it as a sign, what I know is that now I can see the bigger picture. Being here today, to mold a new story of a house where creativity has always been a culture and innovation a science, makes me feel honoured and proud to continue the story that who came before me already told with respect and assertive points of view.' He also explained how he is starting a new chapter at the brand: 'Balenciaga is what it is today thanks to all the people who have paved the way,' adding that 'This gives me the chance to shape a new version of the maison, adding another chapter with a new story. My chapter of the House of Balenciaga. I am grateful for the trust that François-Henri, Francesca and Gianfranco are giving me. We were effortlessly on the same page from the start, and that is the best way to start something new. Work is done by people and the way people feel within the work is the only thing that matters.' The first Balenciaga collection under Piccioli's creative direction will be unveiled in October 2025.

'Ugly' orthopaedic shoes are back in fashion - but would YOU splash out £600 for a pair?
They may have been designed to help with painful bunions and other foot-related maladies, but so-called 'orthopaedic' ugly shoes are back in style. Footwear from brand like Dr Scholls and Crocs will be the top choice among fashionistas this Summer - despite their lack of aesthetic appeal. According to the Telegraph, the practical footwear is coming back in vogue as part of the 70s boho revival. Shoes that were once born from pharmacies for being practical are set to become highly desirable as a style statement this Spring and Summer. The most recognisable style of Dr Scholls is the Pescura design, which features a flat wooden sole and a leather strap across the toes. They retails for around £117. And some pairs are selling for eye-watering sums, as designer brands are cashing in on the style. In a bid to attract high fashion lovers, Dr Scholls has teamed up with major fashion houses to create pricy new options. Among the designers to partner with the orthopaedic brand are Balenciaga, which created a line of 'ugly chic shoes'. There are six different pairs in the line, including high heeled versions of the Pescura design - with the most expensive pair from the Scholl x Balenciaga line costing a staggering £625. According to Demna Gvasalia, the former creative director of Balenciaga, she wanted to create 'the most comfortable heels ever made'. The result was a twist on the Pescura - heels were added to the traditional style, with a stiletto version and a lower heeled option, which boasts a cork sole. According to a description on Balenciaga's site: 'This Balenciaga product is part of a collaboration with Scholl. Combining creativity and savoir faire with technical expertise, this series of products aims to propose the most conformable shoes ever made. ' Another designer crossover is the Scholl x Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini option. Philosophy is a diffusion line from the extremely upmarket Italian label Alberta Feretti. Among the options available in the range is the Mary Jane Clog Philosophy x Scholl, which has a RRP of £600. Inspired by traditional Mary Jane strap shoes, the clogs come in multiple colourways including black and brown. They boast a thick wooden sole with an enclosed toe and double strap with buckles. The description on the brand's website says: 'Mary Jane Clog in polished abrasive calfskin made in collaboration with Scholl. Characterized by a wooden structure and a leather upper with double strap, it features a design reminiscent of the seventies. 'Available in two color options: a total black version for a more glam-rock style and a leather variant for a more bohemian vibe.' The most famous Dr Scholl style - the Pescura - was designed in 1956. Old advertisements for the shoe say wearing them will 'shape, tone and firm your legs with every step you take'. This is due to how wearers are forced to grip onto the shoes with their toes, as they only have a strap at the front. Before their recent renaissance, the Pescura was considered a shoe for hippy-types, and desperately unfashionable. Fashion editor and ceramicist Deborah Brett told the Telegraph that when she was growing up, her mother wore Dr Scholls, specifically the Pescura model with a cream coloured strap. She said: 'Even as a child, I understood they were uncool. There's a German word: oko. It translates to 'eco', and basically means that you're a bit crusty.' However, she has now changed her opinion, and wears her mother's Scholls - which she has not yet had to get resoled, as they are so hardwearing. Describing how she likes to style them, Deborah said: 'I love Scholls with capri pants. You see a little bit of an ankle and they look really cool. Same with an A-line skirt – the shoes give you a bit of height, which you need with that silhouette. You can also pair them with a white linen suit in the summer, elevating your look from classically elegant to fashion-forward elegant.' Despite their utilitarian appearance, the Pescura is set to win over a legion of new fans, after actress Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted wearing on the set of And Just Like That last year. Perhaps surprisingly, the casual sandals received a lot of positive reviews as something fans seemed to definitely want to emulate when an image of the Sex and the City star was posted on Instagram. 'Loving the Dr. Scholls,' wrote one. 'The Dr Scholl's! I'm so jealous ❤️' said another.
