BTS, Bong Joon Ho Make Special Appearances On South Korea's Election Broadcast
South Korea's 21st presidential election vote-counting broadcast marked a unique representation of the past and present of the country that conveyed a deep resonance. On June 3, one of the country's terrestrial broadcasters, MBC, aired a special election coverage titled 'Democracy Again: Choice 2025," which highlighted cross-edits of major events and modern times of Korean contemporary and modern history.
Hours before the joint exit poll results were announced, familiar faces like BTS and globally acclaimed director Bong Joon Ho, among others, appeared in the footage, drawing attention from the whole nation. Popular K-pop band BTS was featured for their groundbreaking speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York in 2018, where the band's leader, Kim Namjoon, aka RM, delivered a powerful message urging the youth globally to find their voice. The broadcaster highlighted one of his favourite lines, which said, 'Instead of dreaming while looking at the stars, let's all take one more step forward."
