Kilmar Abrego Garcia indicted on human trafficking charges, ordered to appear before judge in Nashville
Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national deported earlier this year, is now back on U.S. soil — but this time, in General Pam Bondi announced Friday that Abrego Garcia, 29, has landed in the United States and is set to face federal charges for human smuggling and conspiracy. "Abrego Garcia has landed in the United States to face justice," Bondi said. "A grand jury in the Middle District of Tennessee returned a sealed indictment charging him with alien smuggling and conspiracy." According to the indictment, Garcia played a "significant role" in a human smuggling ring operating for nearly a decade. Children were among those allegedly trafficked. He will be prosecuted and, if convicted, serve his sentence in the U.S. before being returned to El Salvador, officials confirmed. Primary/special election ballot: Candidates who filed, levies and issues that will appear
Wooster will have one contested City Council race on the May primary/special election ballot. Three candidates have filed to fill two at large seats. The filing deadline for the May 6 election was Wednesday. Steven Huszai of Blair Boulevard, Bonita Louise Kaufman of Cher Court and Drew Paul of Summerlin Drive filed to fill two open at large seats, , according to the Wayne County Board of Elections. In Ward 2, Jennifer Warden of East Wayne Avenue, a Democrate, is running unopposed for a Ward 2 seat. Carrie L. Snyder, a Republican from North Bever Street, is running unopposed in May for the Ward 4 seat. Two at large Orrville City Council seats are open and two Republican candidates have filed to fill them. Rick Aspiras Jr. of South Walnut Street and Rees H. Davies of McGill Street filed for the at large seats. For the open Ward 2 seat, Jason Lax of Schrock Road, Republican, is running unopposed. Beverly Ann Squirrell, a Democrat from West Market Street, is the lone candidate to file for an open Ward 4 seat. Township, village and school district issues on the ballot are: City, village, township Rittman, five-year renewal of a 1-mill levy that collects $96,000 annually for capital improvements and fire department maintenance. Shreve, five-year additional 7.3-mill levy that would collect $173,000 annually to fund police salaries. Sugar Creek Township, four-year renewal of a 2-mill levy that collects $200,000 annually for road and bridge maintenance. School districts Wooster City School District, $67 million bond issue for constructing a new middle school and renovating district facilities, to be repaid over 36 years at a rate of 3.4 mills. Hillsdale Local School District, continuing renewal tax levy of 20.1 mills for current expenses, expected to raise $8.1 million annually. Norwayne Local School District, five-year renewal levy of 2 mills that generates $120,000 annually for general permanent improvements. Waynedale Local School District, 10-year renewal levy of 2.7 mills that raise $1.8 million annually for emergency requirements.
