Thieves and tourists can't stop stealing x-rated street sign from seaside town
One family friendly seaside town has a road sign so dirty its enough to stop you calling anyone 'daddy' ever again.
The explicit road name has caught the attention of tourists and thieves, causing a headache for bewildered locals.
At the centre of the furore is none other than Daddyhole Road in Torquay.
Even more stunning than the name is its links to a cave where the devil is said to live.
Torquay Council keeps on having to replace the Daddyhole Road street signs as they keep vanishing.
Councillors, meanwhile, have been left scratching their heads as to why its sparked so much interest.
Conservative Cllr Nick Bye told a recent cabinet meeting: 'Quite why it gets taken away so frequently, who knows?', Devon Live reported.
He added: 'There are souvenir hunters who seem to be quite fascinated by the title of Daddyhole Road, and the sign keeps disappearing.
'Twice in this term of office we have had to get replacements.'
A councillor saying 'daddyhole' was not on your 2025 bingo card, was it?
The astonishing road name is not the only 'daddyhole' in the popular seaside town, which welcomes close to 5 million visitors each year.
The street leads to Daddyhole Plain, which offers one of the most popular viewpoints of the bay and the ocean. More Trending
Tourists will be stunned to discover this x-rated name comes from a local myth about the Devil.
Daddy is an old English term for the Devil, who according to local legend lives in a cave at the bottom of the cliff.
According to one historic tale, named the 'Demon Hunter of Daddyhole Plain', a lady called Matilda walked on the Daddyhole Cliffs and encountered the Devil on a horse.
Legend has it you can still hear her crying in the middle of the night as the waves crash against the cliffs.
