Qurate Changes Its Name to QVC Group
RECHRISTENED: Qurate Retail Inc. has changed its name to QVC Group Inc. and the stock on Monday began trading under the symbols 'QVCGA,' 'QVCGB' and 'QVCGP.'
David Rawlinson II, president and chief executive officer of the group, called the maneuver a 'rebranding' and an 'important milestone in our nearly 50-year evolution as a collection of leading retail brands.' The group includes QVC, HSN, Ballard Designs, Frontgate, Garnet Hill and Grandin Road.

In addition to rebranding, the company is consolidating. As reported by WWD on Feb. 12, the company is closing HSN's campus in St. Petersburg, Fla., and is centralizing operations with QVC's Studio Park in West Chester, Pa. In a statement, a spokesperson told WWD, 'This reorganization is the next step in executing our plan and realizing our expansion into live social shopping.' The company 'anticipates role eliminations, as well as relocations and shifts to virtual working in certain circumstances, and is in the process of determining specific impacts to various functions across the business.'
The group has lived with the Qurate name for six years, which is a curious amalgamation of QVC and the word 'curate,' although it's close to the word 'quorate' which means having a quorum.
'From the beginning, we've been the innovators in live video shopping — first on cable TV, then on e-commerce and mobile,' said Rawlinson. 'Now, once again, we're reimagining our company to grow in new places by leaning into streaming and social.'
