Dog found living in feces and garbage, Canandaigua man arrested
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Canandaigua man has been charged with animal cruelty after deputies say a dog was found in poor living conditions.
On March 15, the Ontario County Sheriff's Office assisted in an animal neglect investigation after a dog named Louie was found wandering around Brickyard Road without an owner.
Louie, a 12-year-old Jack Russel-type dog, was seen walking towards an open door at a home on Brickyard Road. Deputies said they followed Louie and saw garbage and feces in the entranceway. A neighbor told deputies the owner had not been seen for weeks.
Deputies described the home as having a putrid odor due to the feces and garbage.
Louie was seized by the Ontario County Humane Society, gave him a clean kennel, and evaluated him — they said his toenails were overgrown and made it uncomfortable for him to walk.
On March 20, the Ontario County Sheriff's Office identified 61-year-old Dennis Keyser as Louie's owner and the homeowner. He was arrested and charged with animal cruelty/neglect.
Keyser will appear in Canandaigua Town Court at a later date. Louie will remain at the Humane Society's shelter as the case is adjudicated.
