Spreader truck runs over and kills one in Daviess County
DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A 77-year-old man is dead after spreader truck ran off the roadway and struck the individual in Daviess County on Friday night.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers received a call around 5:00 p.m. on Friday to a report of an accident involving a spreader truck near State Road 57 near Crestwood Drive.
Upon arrival, authorities determined Dennis P. Toy (68) was traveling northbound on State Road 57 and for unknown reasons, went off the roadway in his John Deer 800R. The spreader then ran over and entrapped an individual who was later identified as Daniel J. Ritterskamp (77). The John Deer 800R struck multiple trees before coming to a resting stop.
Mr. Ritterskamp was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Daviess County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Washington Township Fire, Daviess County Coroner's Office, Daviess Community Hospital Ambulance Service, Washington City Fire, Washington City Police, and Briggeman's Towing.
