Former Lakers, Celtics Player Named in Bucks Report

Former Lakers, Celtics Player Named in Bucks Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. All indications are that the Milwaukee Bucks are not making any seismic changes this offseason. In other words, two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo will stay put even after their playoff struggles for the last three years. Advertisement By extension, that means the Bucks will try to add some help. The Bucks face a tough task because Damian Lillard will likely be out for the entire season as he recovers from an Achilles tear. Milwaukee will turn to free agency to try to build a better team around Antetokounmpo. Milwaukee has smartly managed their cap situation well. Trading Khris Middleton for Kyle Kuzma, along with Brook Lopez's contract off their books, could allow them to sign a big name on the free agent market this offseason with the midlevel exception. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis AntetokounmpoBenny Sieu-Imagn Images ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed that among the Bucks' targets is former Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics guard Dennis Schroder. Windhorst outlined how the Bucks' cap situation could allow them to sign Schroder to an expensive deal rather than a veteran's minimum. Advertisement "Rival teams suspect the Bucks will end up in the tax but keep their payroll below the $196 million first apron, which would open their ability to access more of the $14 million midlevel exception," Windhorst wrote. "They might need a large chunk of it for a starting point guard in place of Lillard, with the candidates including free agents such as Dennis Schroder, Tyus Jones and Malcolm Brogdon." Schroder played for the Lakers twice, the first time during the 2020-21 season and the second during the 2022-23 season. Schroder played half of the 2021-22 season for the Celtics. He helped the Lakers much more than he did for the Celtics, as he helped them reach the Western Conference Finals in 2023. He is also coming off a season in which he helped the Detroit Pistons have their best season in years. Even if the Bucks make a bid for him, the Pistons may not let him go. Boston Celtics alum Jeff Teague on Isaiah Thomas, Dennis Schroder tiff in '16 playoffs

Long before he would join the Boston Celtics backcourt, vet guard Dennis Schroder once had himself quite the encounter with Celtics fan favorite floor general Isaiah Thomas. Back when the King in the Fourth was still terrorizing Boston's opponents with his lightening-quick first step, IT and the Celtics collided with Schroder and the Atlanta Hawks in the 2016 NBA Playoffs. Another future Celtic on that roster (there were several former or future Boston players on the team as well, including a trio of Celtics big alumni Mike Muscala, Kris Humphries, and Al Horford), Jeff Teague, recently recounted on his "Club 520" podcast an altercation between Thomas and Schroder he just couldn't help but smile about in retrospect despite the on-court violence it entailed. Dennis Schroder excelling as Pistons pest against Knicks: ‘Just be who I am'

DETROIT — Dennis Schröder has been a pest to the Knicks all series. He had 14 points, three assists and a steal in 22 minutes off the bench in the Knicks' 106-103 Game 5 loss to the Pistons on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. Five of those points came in the fourth quarter. For the series, Schröder is averaging 13.2 points per game with stellar shooting — 52.3 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from 3-point range. And when Ausar Thompson checks out, Schröder has usually taken on the role of guarding Jalen Brunson. Compared to the tall and lengthy Thompson, Schröder provides Brunson with a smaller, quicker look. New York Knicks guard Miles McBride defends against Detroit Pistons guard Dennis Schroder. JASON SZENES/ NY POST And he's having more fun with the Pistons than he's had in years. He spent parts of the past two seasons with the Nets, who traded him to the Warriors in December. He played 24 games for the Warriors before they traded him as part of the three-team deal to acquire Jimmy Butler, sending him to the Pistons. Detroit has been a perfect fit for Schröder, and the Pistons are benefitting from the pairing as well. 'I love Brooklyn. Played there, played great. They wanted to go a different route,' Schröder said. 'Went to Golden State, met incredible people and then came to Detroit. I think Detroit is one of the best situations I've been in. I don't have to change my style of play, I can be myself. I got a coach who is going at the refs, who is not taking no crap. I'm like that. That's the reason I'm in the league for 12 years. I'm 6-foot-1, I've got to find my way somehow. I love that I don't have to change myself and I can just be who I am. My teammates embrace me. I just try to help every game.' Pistons guard Dennis Schroder (17) drives past Knicks forward Mikal Bridges (25) in the second quarter during Game 5 of the 2025 NBA Playoffs at Madison Square Garden. Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images Beyond his on-court production, the 31-year-old Schröder has provided valuable veteran leadership to a young Pistons core, particularly to Cade Cunningham. Of the nine Pistons who played in Game 5, four are 23 or younger. 'Just talking as much as we can, bring them together,' Schröder said. 'Every dead ball, come together, making sure I talk to Cade. Cade, he's one of the best players in the world. Keep talking to him, see the stuff that I see. Just try to teach him and encourage him. He did it tonight, he controlled the whole game. Every time he was stepping on the court, he was controlling the game.'

Knicks vs. Pistons Game 3 prediction Schroder, who was traded to Detroit from the Golden State Warriors at the NBA trade deadline, dropped 20 points in Game 2 off the bench, the second-most on the Pistons behind Cade Cunningham's 33 points. The veteran took advantage of favorable match-ups against Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride, going 6-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-5 from deep, and getting to the line six times. Getty Images Oddsmakers are expecting a step back for Schroder on Thursday night, pegging his points over/under at 9.5, but he's proven to be a massive contributor in the Pistons' veteran-heavy rotation in recent months. After the calendar turned to March in the regular season, Schroder averaged 11.7 points per game in 27.3 minutes a contest. Betting on the NBA? He reached double-digit points in 15 of 21 games in that span, proving we may have some value with Schroder's low points total Thursday. NBA Playoffs: New York Knicks at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

NBA Playoffs: New York Knicks at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions The third-seeded New York Knicks and the sixth-seeded Detroit Pistons meet in Game 3 of an Eastern Conference best-of-7, first-round series Thursday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The series is tied 1-1. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (TNT). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's NBA odds around the Knicks vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets. Regular-season series: Pistons won 3-1 After losing 123-112 as 7-point road underdogs in Saturday's Game 1, the Pistons bounced back with a 100-94 upset win as 6.5-point underdogs at the Knicks in Game 2 Monday. The Over (221.5) hit in Game 1, while the Under -- also 221.5 -- cashed in Game 2. G Cade Cunningham finished with 33 points and 12 rebounds in Monday's win, which snapped Detroit's NBA-record, 15-game postseason skid. G Dennis Schroder added 20 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 55 seconds remaining. The Knicks rallied from a 15-point third-quarter deficit, using a 16-4 surge in the fourth to tie the game at 94 with 1:15 left. G Jalen Brunson led the way with 37 points and 7 assists (both game-highs), while C Karl-Anthony Towns and F OG Anunoby were held to just 10 points apiece in the loss. Knicks at Pistons picks and predictions Prediction Knicks 108, Pistons 102 NEW YORK (-118) offers solid value after dropping Game 2 outright as a 6.5-point favorite. The Knicks still boast the superior roster -- a key reason they're favored on the road -- and were somewhat unlucky to lose Monday. Had Schroder not buried a late 3-pointer, New York might be heading into Game 3 with a 2-0 series lead and a sweep in sight. Don't overreact to Game 2. BET KNICKS (-118). New York -1.5 (-105) isn't a bad bet, but Knicks (-118) on the moneyline is the slightly safer play. PASS. Bet the moneyline and/or total instead. New York has leaned Under of late, going 8-3 in that direction across its last 11 games while holding opponents to 105 points or fewer 6 times. The trend continues situationally -- the Knicks are 17-14 to the Under (54.8%) following a loss -- and 2 of the last 3 meetings have stayed Under as well. BET UNDER 214.5 (-115).
