Persons with disabilities receive assistive devices in Tiruchi
The Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons (DWDAP), in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), presented assistive devices to 217 persons with disabilities from Thuraiyur, Tiruchi, Tiruverumbur, Manachanallur, and Lalgudi at the Tiruchi Collectorate on Thursday.
According to an official note, the beneficiaries were selected through social reinforcement meetings held by DWDAP, and received 461 assistive devices worth ₹21.73 lakh. District Collector M. Pradeep Kumar and Durai Vaiko, MP, distributed the devices on Thursday.
Among the devices were motorised and ordinary tricycles, foldable wheelchairs, axilla and elbow crutches, assistance to daily living (ADL) kits for leprosy patients, mobile phones, and hearing aids.
ALIMCO, which functions under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, and DWDAP had earlier presented assistive devices to 597 beneficiaries.
As part of Special Mother's Day celebrations, the Collector felicitated 50 mothers who have worked hard to take care of their children with disability, in the presence of R. Ravichandran, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer, Tiruchi, and senior officials.
