We want every OBC student to have access to education, and every family to live with dignity. Our govt stands with them at every step."
He said, "In CM Yogi's vision, real development reaches the last person in the queue — and this vision is now being translated into reality. The pace at which the OBC community is progressing is turning UP into a strong model of inclusive development."
The minister informed that the step was among the many taken by the Yogi govt to improve the life of OBC students.
"These efforts are reshaping the role of the OBC community — from merely receiving govt benefits to becoming active contributors in the state's development journey. Once struggling for basic amenities, the OBC community is now moving ahead with confidence in areas like education, employment, and social dignity," he said.
Listing out the measures, a govt spokesperson said: "In the financial year 2024–25, the budget for the Department of Backward Class Welfare increased to Rs 2,789.71 crore — Rs 451.08 crore more than last year.
This increase shows the Yogi govt's strong commitment to not just treat OBCs as beneficiaries, but to empower them as active contributors to society."
They added that the govt connected over 30 lakh OBC students to mainstream education through scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes worth Rs 2,475 crore — 5 lakh more students than last year. Additionally, the income eligibility limit has been standardised to Rs one lakh for both rural and urban areas, allowing more people to qualify for the benefits.
