Six nabbed for theft at APSRTC depot manager's house in Kurnool

Kurnool police arrested six persons, including five minors, on Saturday, for stealing valuables from the house of an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) depot manager in Kurnool, a few days back. The accused committed the offence by learning to break open the locks of houses through YouTube, the police said. The theft took place at the house of Sardar Hussain, who is Depot-I manager, and resides in Sai Vaibhav Nagar in the city. The incident happened when Mr. Hussain had gone to Hyderabad to attend a function along with his family members. Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patel said that the main accused, Shaik Shavali, who works in a dhaba, along with the five others, learned the trick of opening locks from YouTube. They brought oil, a saw and an iron rod and reached Sai Vaibhav Nagar on two motorcycles around 1 a.m. and found Mr. Hussain's house locked. They opened the lock and stole 27 tola of gold ornaments worth ₹20 lakh and 35 tola silver, and distributed the stolen items among themselves. The next day, on April 13, the depot manager lodged a complaint with the police. The six were finally caught on Saturday near Central University at Nandyal checkpost and the entire stolen items recovered from them. The SP said that two of the minors were involved in two theft cases earlier. The accused are school dropouts, he added. Mr. Vikrant Patel asked the citizens to utilise the Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS), instal CCTVs in their houses, and also inform the police about movement of suspicious people in residential localities.
