Facing Dallas Baptist with a trip to the regional title on the line, LSU baseball advanced with a 12-0 victory. LSU baseball jolts up RPI after emphatic midweek win

LSU baseball jolts up RPI after emphatic midweek win After moving to 37-9 on the year with a midweek win over Southeastern Louisiana, LSU baseball is climbing up the RPI rankings. LSU took care of business vs. the in-state foe with a 15-2 run-rule victory. Derek Curiel, Daniel Dickinson, and Josh Pearson all had multi-hit games. Ethan Frey drove in four runs, and Jared Jones homered. Now, the Tigers rank No. 5 in RPI, jumping up four spots from No. 9. LSU took a RPI hit with its midweek loss last week, but after a series victory over Tennessee and an emphatic win over Southeastern Louisiana, LSU is back where it needs to be. LSU has another chance to pad it's resume this weekend with Arkansas coming to town. The Razorbacks are No. 7 in RPI. Jay Johnson's squad has its eyes set on a top-eight national seed -- which means hosting a Super Regional. If LSU can take two of three from Arkansas and avoid any midweek slip-ups the rest of the year, the Tigers should be in a position to earn a premium seed.

LSU baseball falls flat vs. Tennessee in game two on Saturday

LSU baseball falls flat vs. Tennessee in game two on Saturday After a stunning late-night victory on Friday, LSU baseball hoped to take the series vs. Tennessee on Saturday. Anthony Eyanson got the start on the mound for LSU, and Marcus Phillips got the start on the mound for Tennessee. Just like in game one, this game became a pitcher's duel. After working through the first three innings unscathed, the Vols scored the first run in the top of the fourth inning. An RBI single and a fielder's choice gave the Vols a 2-0 lead after four innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning, LSU had its first chance to score as a double and a wild pitch put Stephen Milam on third base with only one out. Ashton Larson entered to pinch hit for Cade Arrambide, and he walked to put runners on the corners with one out. A Chris Stanfield flyout and a Derek Curiel groundout would end the inning as the Tigers were unable to score any runs. The Vols kept their 2-0 lead. In the top of the sixth inning, Eyanson struck out the first two hitters he faced before walking the next batter. He was pulled from the game in favor of William Schmidt after that happened. Schmidt walked the first hitter he faced, and he was pulled from the game. Mavrick Rizy entered to pitch. Rizy walked the first hitter he faced, and Tennessee had the bases loaded with two outs. Rizy was able to get the next hitter to ground out, and the Tigers got out of the inning without allowing any runs. Eyanson's night finished after 5.2 innings. He allowed two runs on six hits, eight strikeouts, and four walks. In the top of the seventh inning, Rizy walked the first batter, and the second batter hit a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. He was pulled from the game in favor of DJ Primeaux. The first batter he faced hit a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Primeaux struck out the next batter to get the first out. Chase Shores would then enter to pitch out of the bullpen. He was greeted with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0. A wild pitch would then advance the runners to second and third. A lineout would end the inning, but Tennessee tacked on a run. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Monster Milam led off with a solo shot, and Michael Braswell III followed that with a solo shot of his own to cut the lead to 3-2! Luis Hernandez struck out, Stanfield fouled out, and Derek Curiel grounded out and we headed to the top of the eighth with the Tigers trailing 3-2. Vols have a massive eighth inning In the top of the eighth inning, Shores hit the first batter he faced, then a groundout advanced the runner to second with one out. The next hitter hit a single to put runners on the corners. LSU intentionally walked the next hitter to load the bases. Shores then hit the next batter to walk in a run and make it 4-2. Cooper Williams then entered to pitch. Williams struck out the first hitter he faced, but the second hitter hit a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 6-2. A three-run homer then made it 9-2 Vols. Grant Fontenot then entered to pitch, and he recorded the final out. In the bottom of the eighth inning, John Pearson cut into the lead with a solo shot to make it 9-3 Vols. With the loss, LSU falls to 35-9 overall and 13-7 in conference play. The winner-take-all game three is scheduled to start Sunday at 2 PM.

LSU baseball storms back to take game one and get needed win vs Alabama

LSU baseball storms back to take game one and get needed win vs Alabama After being swept by Auburn last weekend, LSU entered the weekend needing a response. The Tigers tried to accomplish that as they welcomed the Alabama Crimson Tide to Baton Rouge. The Tigers trailed 5-1 before scoring 10 straight runs to win this one 11-6. LSU's biggest issue at Auburn was the bats going ice cold. Tonight, that problem continued to persist in the early stages of the game. In the top of the first inning, Alabama got on the board first with a solo shot to go up 1-0. LSU was unable to score any runs in the first or second innings and in the top of the third, the Tide hit another homer to extend its lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the third, LSU finally got on the board as Derek Curiel came through with an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. As we went to the top of the sixth, Kade Anderson trotted back out onto the mound for another inning of work. Unfortunately, the inning didn't go well for him. Alabama hit a two-run homer and a solo shot to make it 5-1 and end Anderson's night. Jacob Mayers entered to pitch for him. In the bottom of the sixth, Ashton Larson was subbed in to pinch hit for Luis Hernandez, who was hitless at the time. Larson came through in a huge way as he hit a three-run blast to cut the lead to 5-4 and give the Tigers' offense life. Casan Evans entered to pitch in the seventh inning. He worked a clean inning, and it was the Tigers' turn to try to make some noise again. LSU got runners on second and third with zero outs, and Dickinson fouled out to third base. That brought up Steven Milam, and "Monster" Milam hit a three-run bomb to give LSU its first lead of the night. After Jake Brown reached on a single, Josh Pearson reached on a fielder's choice, and Brown scored to extend the lead to 8-5. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Ethan Frey hit a two-run shot, and Brown hit an RBI groundout to extend the LSU lead to 11-5. Connor Benge entered the game to pitch in the ninth inning, and the Tide loaded the bases against him before they scored a run on a walk to cut the lead to 11-6. Zac Cowan then entered to pitch. Cowan recorded a flyout to end the game. With the win, LSU improves to 33-6 overall and 11-5 in conference play. Game two is scheduled to start tomorrow at 6 PM.
