Melaka teacher relieved of teaching duties over alleged affair with married man
NIBONG TEBAL: A teacher in Melaka, who went viral for allegedly having an affair with a married man, has been relieved of her teaching duties.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the teacher was still performing her duties as a public servant while investigations were ongoing.
"We have taken steps to ensure the investigation proceeds smoothly.
"The teacher is currently undergoing the investigation process, which means we are taking measures to prevent any interference.
"As such, the teacher has been 'rested', meaning she has been removed from her school and placed elsewhere to allow the investigation to continue without disruption," she told reporters here today.
Fadhlina was speaking after the launch of the Dermasiswa Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) programme, organised by Farm Fresh Bhd at SMK Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah.
The controversy involving the teacher, who recently divorced, and the married man went viral after screenshots of their WhatsApp conversations were posted on social media.
Videos showing the man's wife confronting the teacher also made the rounds online.
Fadhlina stressed that the ministry takes issues relating to teachers' integrity, morals and ethics very seriously.
"Whether the issue arises formally or goes viral, we take it seriously, and it is currently under investigation.
"We are fully responsible for ensuring that our teachers uphold the standards of integrity and ethics set by the ministry.
"Our assurance is that we remain committed to upholding the ethical standards and integrity of the teaching profession. We hope our educators are constantly reminded of this.
"It is our responsibility to monitor their conduct, both within and outside school, as teachers carry the image of the profession and are regarded as role models in society," she added.
