Nets select G Egor Demin with No. 8 pick in 2025 NBA Draft

Despite owning five first-round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, GM Sean Marks and the Nets stayed put at pick No. 8 to select guard Egor Demin from BYU. Demin, 19, is listed at 6-foot-9 and 190 pounds. He was born in Moscow, Russia and played for Real Madrid before heading to college for the 2024-25 season. Advertisement The guard averaged 10.6 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.9 rebounds over 27.5 minutes of action across 33 games with the Cougars, leading them to an 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament. BYU made it to the Sweet Sixteen before falling to Alabama. Demin should fit in nicely on a rebuilding Nets team without a true lead guard. His size adds another layer to his potential as a playmaker at both the point guard and shooting guard spots. Brooklyn's last lottery pick came in the 2010 NBA Draft when they selected Derrick Favors from Georgia Tech with the No. 3 pick. The Nets will pick again at No. 19, No. 22, No. 26, and No. 27, barring any trades.

Nets awarded eighth overall pick in 2025 NBA Draft Lottery

The Nets have been awarded the eighth pick in the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery. This was their first time participating in the lottery since they landed the third overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft -- which they ultimately used on big man Derrick Favors out of Georgia Tech. Advertisement Brooklyn entered the night with just a 9.0 percent chance of winning this year's lottery and the opportunity to select Duke star Cooper Flagg after finishing with the sixth-worst record in the league. Instead, the eighth selection will headline their four first-rounders this year. As part of the Mikal Bridges deal with the Knicks they also have the 19th, 26th and 27th picks as well as the 36th pick coming in the second round. It'll be interesting to see if GM Sean Marks keeps all of these picks for the rebuilding club or looks to package some of them in a deal for a superstar such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is said to be "open-minded" about leaving Milwaukee. Some of the players in recent mock drafts around Brooklyn's pick include Duke's Kon Knueppel, Oklahoma's Jeremiah Fears, and Texas' Tre Johnson. Advertisement This year's draft takes place on June 25 and 26 at Barclays Center. Here's how the rest of the lottery shaped out:

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 14 - Derrick Favors (2010-11)

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 14 - Derrick Favors (2010-11) The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans". Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today. To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 16th of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 14 which has has had a total of 29 players wear the number in the history of the team. The 16th of those players wearing No. 14 played in the (then) New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) Nets era, big man alum Derrick Favors. After ending his college career at Georgia Tech, Favors was picked up with the third overall selection of the 2010 NBA draft by the Nets. The Atlanta, Georgia native would play part of the first season of his pro career with New Jersey, traded to the Utah Jazz after just 56 games played with the team that drafted him. During his time suiting up for the Nets, Favors wore only jersey No. 14 and put up 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
