Tiny Trees giveaway program applications now open
DES MOINES, Iowa – Despite the frigid temperatures the city of Des Moines is already preparing for Spring.
Des Moines residents can now place their orders for up to five free tree seedlings to plant on their own property. Homeowners have until April 18th or when supplies run out to place their orders.
Snowmobilers rejoice at winter's first major snowfall
Each year since the program's inception in 2017, Des Moines Forestry has given away thousands of trees through its Tiny Trees Giveaway Program. The program helps promote the growth of the City's urban tree canopy.
The city is offering several varieties this year including:
Blackgum
Chestnut Oak
Shellbark Hickory
Bald Cypress
Flowering Dogwood
American Persimmon
Serviceberry
Elderberry
Norway Spruce
See tree care details and planting tips on the city's webpage.
Pickup is on Saturday, April 26th, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Polk County River Place parking lot. If you're interested in volunteering during the pickup day you'll receive five bonus Tiny Trees.
