OPP urging 3 suspects in serious assault in Deseronto, Ont. to turn themselves in

(OPP/handout) Ontario Provincial Police are urging three suspects in a serious assault in Deseronto to turn themselves in. Police say the assault took place May 16. One person was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the incident appears to be targeted and there is no broader risk to public safety. One person was arrested in Belleville on Wednesday. Arrest warrants remain outstanding for three others, police said. The OPP are warning, however, that people do not approach the three suspects who are still wanted in connection with this incident and instead call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E250615430 with information about their whereabouts. 'These individuals are urged to turn themselves in to police,' OPP said Friday. Police are seeking the following suspects: Cherie Pammett, 51, described as 5-foot-3 (160 cm) tall, with a stocky build, blonde hair and brown eyes. Dorothy Speirs, 51, described as 5-foot-8 (173 cm) tall, with a medium build, blonde hair and green eyes. Kerry Weeks, 63, described as 5-foot-2 (157 cm) tall, with a stocky build, blonde hair and blue eyes. All three women are wanted on charges including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and forcible confinement. Deseronto is located approximately 30 kilometres east of Belleville.

The remains were found around 3 p.m. Saturday near Highway 49 between Old Highway 2 and Lower Slash Road, just west of Deseronto, Ont., OPP said in a news release later that evening. It's believed they had been there for some time, the police force added. The investigation is in the initial stages, and residents should expect a higher than normal police presence, OPP said. Police said there doesn't appear to be any risk to public safety.
