Al Salam Cycling Championship's Desert Race set to begin tomorrow
Under the directives and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Desert Race-the third stage of the ninth Al Salam Cycling Championship-will take place on Sunday (Feb.9, 2025.) Organised by the Private Office of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai, this championship is recognised as the world's largest community cycling event in terms of diversity and prize value. Omair Bin Jumaa Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of Sheikh Mohammedi and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee of the Al Salam Cycling Championship, said that all preparations for the race are complete. To be held within the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve, the Desert Race promises a challenging course, taking cyclists through sand dunes and rocky both UAE nationals and residents, can choose between two routes: Sarouq Al Hadid (52 km) and Al Ashoosh (57 km). Intense competition was the order of the day, with participants demonstrating remarkable levels of skill and endurance as they navigated challenging desert terrain. Held within the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve in Dubai, the event featured two unique routes: Sarouq Al-Hadid (52 km) and Al Ashoosh (57 km). The race also includes a timed sprint segment at Areeqib Brashi. Team and individual rankings The winners of the race were crowned at the end of the event, with Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Club dominating the top three positions in the Al-Ashoush 57-km race. Their rider Grega Bol secured first place, followed by Cornelis Vermeltfoort in second place and Timo de Jong in third. In the team rankings of the same category, Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Club claimed first place, followed by Airwerks Racing Team in second, and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai settled for the third spot. In the Sarouq Al-Hadid 52-km race, Essaid Abelouache from Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi's team secured first place, followed by Jaber Al Mansoori from the Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Team in second, and Soulayman Minaoual from the Yasi team in third. In the team rankings for the 52-km race, Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Club finished first, followed by Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi's team in second, and the Dubai Police Cycling Team in third. Sprint challenge In the Dubai Endurance City Point Sprint Challenge, Ahmed Obaid Saif Al Marri from Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi's team took first place in the UAE Nationals (18-39 years) category. Jaber Al Mansoori of Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Club finished second, and Abdulaziz Saeed of GDRFA Dubai Cycling Team came third. In the Residents (18-39 years) category, Cornelis Vermeltfoort from Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Club claimed first place. Mohamed Farag of Yasi Team took second spot, and Roan Tamang finished third. Dubai Sports Council receives Delegation of the Rwandan Cycling Federation
H.E. Saeed Hareb, the Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council (DSC), received the delegation of the Rwandan Cycling Federation, headed by Mr. Samson Ndayishimiye, the Rwandan Cycling Federation's President, and composed of Mr. Edward Bizomurimi, the Minister Counselor at the Consulate General of the Republic of Rwanda in Dubai, & Ms. Anaas Mutoni, the Second Counselor at the Consulate General of Rwanda. The meeting took place at DSC's premises in the presence of H.E. Naser Aman Al-Rahma, Assistant Secretary General of DSC. The meeting confirmed the importance of common collaboration between both parties, as DSC enjoys distinctive experiences in organization of international cycling championships. H.E. Saeed Hareb presented detailed explanation on the remarkable development of cycling sport in Dubai & the dramatic increase in the numbers of events, participants & routes in various locations of Dubai, where several global & local cycling races are hosted annually. The next month of February will witness organization of six of 6 of the strongest cycling races; these are the UAE Tour – Men & Women's Categories, L' Etape Dubai Cycling, Spinneys Dubai 92 Challenge and the Desert Race & Women Cycling of Al-Salam Cycling Championship. Mr. Samson Ndayishimiye talked on the hard efforts, exerted by the Republic of Rwanda to host the World Cycling Championship next Sept., as sport is one of the main pillars of governmental work in Rwanda, referring to the country's endeavors to enhance its status in the global field. He explained pleasure toward his visit to the UAE, which is considered as one of the leading countries in cycling sport, stating that UAE enjoys prominent global reputation in hosting of various Tours in Abu Dhabi, Dubai & Sharjah. He also referred that he is pleased toward the participation in the Sharjah International Tour, which is considered as a unique opportunity for Rwandan riders to acquire new competitive experiences in this spectacular sport. In conclusion of the meeting, H.E. Saeed Hareb presented to guests the English version of 'My Story'; a masterpiece book, written by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President & Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
