Speedboat goes flying in air during record-breaking competition in Arizona lake; chilling video goes viral
A high-speed boating event in Arizona took a dramatic turn when a speedboat travelling at 200 mph lost control, flew into the air, and flipped before crashing upside down into the water. The incident occurred on April 26 during the annual Desert Storm Shootout at Lake Havasu, located around 150 miles south of Las Vegas, USA Today reported. Both racers suffered only minor injuries and are reportedly in good health. A viral video shows the Freedom One Racing boat, a powerful twin-hull Skater model, taking off the surface, twisting mid-air, and somersaulting before slamming down. The chilling moment was captured by the audience. A voice in the video can be heard shouting, 'No, no, no! Oh my God. Oh my God,' while others scream in the background as the crash occurs. Watch here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Daily Mail (@dailymail) The video amassed an array of reactions, with a user commenting, 'Speed thrills and in most cases kills, lucky they walked away with minor injuries.' Another user commented, 'Notice how the boat hovers temporarily over the water. GTA San Andreas got it right.' 'with that speed falling into the water will feel like concrete,' a third user chimed in. When the accident occurred, the boat was reportedly attempting to break the lake's speed record of 206 mph. Although they fell short, hitting 200.1 mph, it was still fast enough to win the competition. According to Speedboat Magazine publisher Ray Lee, the Freedom One boat crossed the finish line despite the crash and was declared the contest winner based on its recorded top speed. Lee explained that the boat is designed to hydroplane across the water's surface, but windy conditions and trim adjustments, changes to the boat's propeller angle, likely caused it to lift off uncontrollably. 'It's an inherently dangerous sport,' Lee said. He added that safety has improved, with modern boats featuring reinforced cockpits and emergency underwater diving gear. Freedom One Racing later confirmed in a video that the operators exited the boat safely and that the damaged vessel was now back on its trailer. The clip revealed significant damage, including splintered fibreglass from the violent impact, PEOPLE reported.

A speedboat crashed while attempting to break the 331km/h record on Lake Havasu. Drivers John Wayne and Clint Eastwood reached 321km/h before losing control and somersaulting. Boat flips in air at over 200mph in failed attempt to break speed record
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A speedboat going at more than 200mph aiming to break a record launched into the air unexpectedly as the stunt went awry. Video recorded from Lake Havasu in Nevada showed the 10,000-horsepower Skater 388 blazing the surface leaving a trail of white water, when it suddenly became airborne. The speedboat made two 360-degree flips before plunging nose first back into the lake and creating a massive splash. 'Holy f***,' a person can be heard saying in the background numerous times. Someone else reacted by saying: 'S***.' The terrifying incident happened at the Desert Storm Shootout boating event on Saturday. Flips in the air ended with the boat 'fortunately landing upright', according to Speedboat Magazine. 'After several tense moments, both driver and throttleman emerged from the closed canopied cockpit, uninjured but are being taken to the hospital for further examination,' stated the magazine in a Facebook post. The Freedom One Racing members were 'OK and not seriously injured', it reported. Another clip shared on social media showed a Mohave County Sheriff's Office vessel with its lights activated approaching the shore, presumably with the rescued boaters on board. The racers have not revealed their real identities and go by John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Both are from Kansas City, Missouri. A competitor in the shootout, Jeff Clark, called the incident 'horrendous'. 'My heart dropped when I saw that boat get airborne,' he told FOX 10 Phoenix. 'It's never something you want to look at when you're out having fun as a driver for sure.' More Trending Clark credited their survival to the vessel being built to withstand great impacts and not falling apart during the crash. 'So when they were sitting in that cockpit and when you look at pictures of the boats, it's totally destroyed but the cockpit is in perfect condition,' he said. 'I tip my hat to Skater and the crew that built that boat because it saved that guy's life, it saved both of their lives, there's no doubt about it.' It happened a day before a ferry was struck by a boat by the Memorial Causeway Bridge in Clearwater, Florida, and one person died and several were hurt. Speedboat's 200mph record attempt goes horribly wrong after being caught by gust of WIND on Arizona lake
A high-speed attempt to break records at the 2025 Desert Storm Shootout in Lake Havasu City, Arizona ended in a shocking crash — but remarkably, everyone walked away with only minor injuries. Freedom One, a skater racing boat from Kansas City, Missouri, was flying down the course at over 200 mph on Saturday when trouble struck. Wind gusts — reported to be around 30 mph — suddenly caught the vessel, sending it airborne in front of stunned spectators. 'We saw the race team proceed down the course, and they started out really well, nothing out of the ordinary,' Ray Lee, owner and publisher of Speedboat Magazine, told AZ Family. 'Then it was about halfway, three-quarters of the way down the course when we saw the nose start to lift.' Video from the event shows Freedom One flipping multiple times before slamming back into the water. The violent crash unfolded around noon, but somehow, both racers survived with only moderate injuries. Freedom One Racing had set its sights on breaking records at the Desert Storm Shootout, an event where boats race solo to clock the highest speeds over a three-quarter-mile stretch. 'It's as fast as you can go in that three-quarter of a mile, and they have radar guns kind of throughout there, and one at the end, so you're really just racing against yourself,' explained Freedom One Racing Boat Tech Ryan Olah. Olah said the boat was custom-built to handle extreme speeds: 'We built this boat to be a record breaker pretty much everywhere we go.' Despite the harrowing crash, the mood among the Freedom One team was surprisingly upbeat. 'Today they've been in great spirits, joking around, a little bit sore and banged up, but for the most part they're happy,' said Olah. One racer suffered a broken collarbone and injured ribs, while the other had a 'semi-fractured' knee, according to Olah. The boat itself took a beating but is expected to be repaired. 'The boat can be fixed, it's all just parts and a little bit of time, so we were just glad that nobody had any major injuries,' he added. Beyond their need for speed, Freedom One Racing is known for giving back to the communities where they compete. Over the weekend, the team raised nearly $20,000 for local charities, even clinching the 'King of the Desert' title at the event — crash and all.
