Local group sparks dialog on the human condition through ‘library' event
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Mental health was in the spotlight Thursday afternoon at Design West in downtown Sioux City.
The non-profit group Simple Life hosted their Human Library Experience to help attendees gain a better understanding of people's mental health struggles.
Unlike traditional libraries where you borrow books, guests were able to check out real stories from volunteers living with chronic mental illness.

'A human library is people in conversations, so you can learn a little bit about the things you don't know. It might be why they ended up homeless [or] what have they struggled with in terms of their autism or schizophrenia. What does that look like on a day in, day out basis; what do the medications do; what don't the medications do,' said Simple Life Founder and CEO Sheri Porter.
There was also live music and food for guests and opportunities to socialize.
