Two more people arrested after 'car drives into pedestrians following a fight at private event'
Two further arrests have been made after a car allegedly drove into pedestrians following a report of a fight at a private event. Police were yesterday called to De Montfort Street, in the centre of Leicester, just after 12.30am where two men and two women had been hurt in the crash. A 31-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision. Two further men from Leicester were arrested yesterday afternoon. A 28-year-old man is being held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision. The second man, a 34-year-old, was arrested on suspicion of affray. All three men arrested remain in police custody while the four injured are still receiving treatment in hospital where they are in a 'stable condition'. The car believed to have been involved in the crash was found nearby. Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall of Leicestershire Police said: 'We have been working tirelessly today to understand the sequence of events and how the incidents of the early hours occurred. 'The cordon was in place for much of today to allow for thorough investigations to be carried out, including the attendance of forensic officers. This has now been lifted. 'We do continue to ask that people do not speculate about this incident, including on social media, in order to allow our investigation to continue. We will continue to provide updates and information as and when we are able to. 'Officers will remain in the area on foot patrol offering reassurance. POLICE are investigating after a car collided with a number of pedestrians, leaving four injured. Emergency crews rushed to the scene in De Montfort Street, Leicester, shortly after 12.30am today, following reports of a car hitting pedestrians. Four people - two men and two women - were injured in the late night collision and were all quickly rushed to hospital, police confirmed. A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision. He remains in police custody where he is being questioned by detectives. Three of the victims were left with "serious" injuries in the collision. Leicestershire Police added that there had also been a report of a fight at the same location earlier on in the night. They added that the car believed to be involved was discovered in a nearby street and had been recovered as part of the investigation.
