Police hunt suspect in stabbing of elderly man in Papakura

Photo: Police / supplied The police have released images of the alleged offender in an unprovoked stabbing attack in South Auckland last month, hoping someone knows who they are. The incident happened on Friday, 16 May at about 11.40am on Settlement Road. The victim was a man in his 70s, who was walking alone at the time outside Papakura Intermediate School, heading west. "Around the same time a person was walking on the opposite side of the road heading in the other direction," Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Taylor said on Tuesday. That other person crossed the road and "lunged" towards the elderly man, Taylor said, for "reasons unknown". A man wanted in connection with a stabbing in Papakura in May. Photo: Police / supplied "Immediately after the offender fled the scene, and the victim realised he had suffered a stab wound. "The victim required hospital treatment and is recovering from this cowardly and unprovoked attack." Police wanted to hear from anyone who might know who the alleged attacker was. "People in the community will know who this person is and they need to do the right thing and speak up," Taylor said.
