Metro Detroit woman dies after crashing into bridge abutment on I-275

Police said a 25-year-old woman has died after she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a bridge abutment Monday evening on southbound I-275. According to Michigan State Police, the Detroit Regional Communications Center received 911 calls at 7:10 p.m. about a crash on the freeway and W. Huron River Drive. Troopers located a Jeep with damage to the front. The driver from Wayne was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that the woman crossed all lanes and drove into the center median before she hit the abutment. The crash caused the driver to be ejected from the vehicle. "Investigators are currently trying to figure out why the driver lost control. We are waiting on ME reports and vehicle inspections. This crash does serve as a reminder of how important it is to wear your seatbelt," said MSP 1st Lt. Mike Shaw.

Suspected drive-by shooting on Lodge Freeway under investigation

A report of a suspected drive-by shooting resulted in the temporary closure of Lodge Freeway in Metro Detroit Wednesday night. There were no injuries from the incident. The Michigan State Police, Metro South Post, said a driver called 911 about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday to report to the Detroit Regional Communications Center that they believed their vehicle was shot at. Troopers went to the area and spoke with the driver, who said he saw a black Dodge Nitro driving recklessly southbound on the Lodge near Livernois. The Dodge was passing him when the front seat passenger pulled out a firearm, fired one shot at his car, and continued on. There was no damage found to the victim's car. The southbound lanes of the Lodge were shut down, with traffic ramping off at Linwood Road, so that troopers could search for shell casings or other evidence. The Lodge was allowed to reopen about 9:45 p.m. The investigation is continuing.

Driver ejected, injured during rollover crash early Friday at I-96 and M-39

A driver was ejected into the road during a rollover crash that happened about 1 a.m. Friday on Interstate 96 in Metro Detroit, the Michigan State Police reported. Multiple calls went to Detroit Regional Communications Center about the crash, which happened in the eastbound lanes of I-96 Local to the M-39 ramp in Wayne County. When troopers arrived, they found the driver on the roadway. Preliminary investigation showed that the 30-year-old Detroit man was driving a GMC Yukon when he struck the center median and rolled over several times. He was ejected during the crash, landing on the road; the vehicle came to rest in the left and center lanes of I-96. The driver was taken to a local hospital. The freeway lanes were closed during the investigation. "This crash is an example of what we are seeing on our roadways: A driver going too fast and losing control of their vehicle and not wearing a seatbelt," state police F/Lt Mike Shaw said. "Please keep your speeds down and wear your seatbelt, no matter where you are seated in the car."
