Ketamine found hidden in pasta and flour in Italy

(EPA PHOTO) Credit: AAP Staff Writers Deutsche Presse Agentur Narcotics investigators near Naples have uncovered more than 100 kilograms of ketamine concealed within packages of Italian pasta and flour, police said. The Guardia di Finanza, Italy's financial police, said the shipment was bound for Los Angeles and would have generated several millions of dollars for organised crime groups. The discovery was made during a routine inspection at a logistics centre in Frattamaggiore, just north of the southern Italian port city. Using sniffer dogs, officers found vacuum-sealed bags containing ketamine hidden among the sealed Italian food products. Ketamine, originally developed as an anaesthetic is popular as a party drug. It is often used in a mixture called "pink cocaine," a high-end street drug that can fetch prices up to $A700 per gram.

Man rams children with car in Japan, injuring eight
Japanese police have detained a man suspected of driving into children in Osaka. (AP PHOTO) Credit: AAP Staff Writers Deutsche Presse Agentur A 28-year-old man has deliberately ploughed his car into a group of primary school children in the Japanese city of Osaka, injuring eight of them, local police say. "I was fed up with everything. I tried to run down the children and to kill them," the Kyodo news agency reported the man as saying. The children were aged between seven and eight. Television footage showed ambulances parked on a narrow back street with medics giving first aid to the children. Police detained the driver on a charge of attempted murder. All of the children were conscious on being taken to hospital. One girl had a broken jaw. They had just left their school when the man attacked them. with AP
