5 men, fake cop kidnap & rob angadia of 32L cash

Navi Mumbai:An angadia was robbed of Rs 32 lakh cash by a six-member gang when he went to deposit the cash at an ATM in Juinagar on May 31. One of the robbers, posing as a cop, claimed that the cash was unaccounted for and told him to accompany them to the police station for inquiry. The gang took him in their car along the Palm Beach Road, and after assaulting him, they snatched his cash and, dumping him on the way, sped away. The Sanpada police have registered a robbery case and are tracing the robbers using technical expertise. Devidas Kathale, senior inspector of Sanpada, said that on May 31, around 7.45 am, the complainant, Mohammad Ramees, accompanied by his friend, went to an ATM kiosk at Juinagar to deposit Rs 31.73 lakh cash. Probably, the gang of robbers was following him. As Ramees entered the ATM kiosk, six men arrived at the spot in an SUV. One of them flashed an identity card claiming to be a cop from Mumbai. The fake cop told Ramees to accompany him for inquiry by claiming that the huge cash in his possession was unaccounted for. He told Ramees to accompany him to the police station for inquiry. The six men forcibly dragged Ramees into their SUV and drove along Palm Beach Road. Midway, the gang assaulted him inside the SUV, and after snatching his cash bag, they dumped him on Palm Beach Road and sped away. To obtain the SUV's registration number, we are scanning the CCTV camera footage of the road by which the robbers sped away. As of now, there is no specific lead on the accused robbers. —George Mendonca
