Man linked to body found in sugarcane field arrested in connection to another murder
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A suspect arrested in December in connection to a body found in a sugarcane field now faces charges in an August shooting death.
A months-long investigation by the Addis Police Department ended with the arrest of Devontae T. Johnson, 23. Addis police officers responded to a double shooting at an apartment complex in the 7500 block of Chad Drive on Aug. 4, 2024. One person was killed and another was taken to a hospital.
Johnson was charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, home invasion and attempted armed robbery.
Police confirmed Johnson was charged in connection with a burned body found in a sugarcane field in Addis. The victim was identified as missing Plaquemine man Ja'Morius Mitchell.
