DBKK to act on illegal parking in housing areas

Published on: Wednesday, June 04, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jun 04, 2025 Text Size: An enforcement officer issues a fine for illegal parking. - Pic via Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu | Facebook The City Hall (DBKK) will take enforcement action against vehicles parked on roads and public spaces in housing areas following frequent complaints of traffic congestion. The DBKK Enforcement Department said offenders risk being fined up to RM500 under the Streets and Public Places By-Laws 1966. Residents are reminded to park within their compounds instead of on roadsides, which obstruct traffic flow and hinder emergency response. This initiative also aims to maintain the city's image as clean, orderly, and safe. DBKK said it will continue educating the public through various platforms, including social media, and urged residents to call 088-521800 for further enquiries or complaints. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Public urged to protect city facilities, avoid vandalism

Published on: Sunday, May 11, 2025 Published on: Sun, May 11, 2025 Text Size: The damaged streetlight pole. - Pic via Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu's Facebook KOTA KINABALU: The City Hall (DBKK) has issued a stern reminder against vandalism following recent damage to public property in the city. DBKK emphasised that public amenities are for the shared benefit of all, and damage caused by irresponsible actions incurs high repair or replacement costs. A recent incident involved a damaged streetlight pole at Jalan Jati, reportedly due to vandalism, which will cost DBKK an estimated RM6,500 to repair. Individuals found guilty of intentionally damaging public property will be required to pay compensation or face civil claims if they fail to do so. DBKK has urged the public to report unethical acts and help maintain Kota Kinabalu as a safe and thriving city for everyone. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? New bylaw on plastic bag usage, disposal being drafted

Published on: Friday, May 09, 2025 Published on: Fri, May 09, 2025 Text Size: The goal is to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable habits through the 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). - Pic for illustration only. Kota Kinabalu: Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK) has rolled out the 'Hari-Hari Bawa Beg Bah' campaign, urging residents to ditch single-use plastic bags in favour of reusable alternatives. Launched on Aug 1, 2024, the initiative targets supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies, clothing shops and local markets under DBKK's jurisdiction. The goal is to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable habits through the 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). While the campaign is currently voluntary, DBKK is drafting a new bylaw to formally regulate plastic bag usage and disposal, ensuring long-term compliance. Until the law takes effect, no fines will be imposed on shoppers or businesses. An exception has been made for wet market vendors selling raw meat, seafood and other perishables. DBKK calls on all residents to embrace the shift toward a greener city.
