UAE's first electric bike to be launched in July; details revealed
The first electric bike designed, developed and manufactured in the UAE has been launched, which can go up to 200 kilometres with a fully-charged battery. Launched at the Make it in the Emirates exhibition in Abu Dhabi on Monday by electric mobility firm EDaddy, the X7 bike's name and design have been inspired by the seven emirates and UAE's national bird falcon. In an interview with Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the exhibition, Yasmeen Jawaharali, co-founder and COO of EDaddy, said the bike will cost Dh12,000 to Dh15,000 as it will come with different sub-versions and a top speed of 180km. She added that it will be fully rolled out in July for individuals and delivery companies across the country. ' We are in the process of approvals. Today is the first-ever soft launch of the product and it will be available in July. We have two manufacturing facilities already built in the National Industrial Park and Dubai Industrial City. It is in the testing phase and hope to get operational in two months,' she added. 'We are also expanding into Abu Dhabi and looking at Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (Kezad),' she said. The start-up has raised $15 million in investment and is likely to raise further funds for the rollout across the UAE and expansion. On average, she revealed that a delivery rider travels around 200km per day. 'We will also roll out battery-swapping stations in the UAE for the efficiency of riders. For last-mile delivery and quick commerce delivery solutions, it is all about time as they compete to deliver as quickly as possible. To make it more efficient for the rider and end-customers for faster delivery, we'll introduce a swapping station to replace the depleted battery in two minutes with a new fully-charged battery. We are starting with four four-kilometre radius,' she said during the interview. The company also developed the Thunderbolt X Next Gen fleet infrastructure platform — an end-to-end platform covering real-time data and analytics from the battery cell. 'The platform monitors the driver behaviour while an inbuilt camera gives a good analysis of the blind spot — just like a car. This is the first of its kind for the two-wheeler. This has been introduced keeping in mind accidents and safety for riders,' she said. The company also plans to manufacture three-wheelers in UAE for Africa, local and other markets. 'We see three-wheelers as a very big market in Africa and across various parts of the world. Even in India, it is the second largest market. So we thought to manufacture for UAE and also for the world in the Emirates,' she added.

Five key changes UAE residents should prepare for in May
Dubai: As May 2025 approaches, residents and travellers in the UAE can expect several important changes that will impact daily commutes, international travel, digital services, and environmental regulations. From a new intercity bus route between Dubai and Sharjah to the seasonal closure of Global Village and the rollout of a national climate law, here are the top updates to watch out for next month. 1. New Dubai–Sharjah bus route to improve commuting Starting May 2, 2025, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will launch a new intercity bus route, E308, to enhance connectivity between Dubai and Sharjah. The service will operate between Stadium Bus Station in Dubai and Al Jubail Bus Station in Sharjah, with a one-way fare of Dh12. Alongside the new route, RTA is implementing several modifications to improve efficiency and passenger convenience across the intercity network. Meanwhile, Ajman's public transport authority will also introduce a new route beginning May 1, connecting Al Musalla Bus Station in Ajman to Al Ain Bus Station, further expanding inter-emirate travel options. 2. Global Village to close for the summer on May 11 Global Village, one of the UAE's most popular outdoor family attractions, will wrap up its 29th season on May 11 as part of its annual summer closure. To mark the end of the season, Global Village is offering free entry to children under 12, a departure from the usual policy, which limits free access to children under three, seniors above 65, and people of determination. First launched in 1997 as a modest cultural fair, Global Village has grown into a multicultural destination, showcasing over 90 cultures, 30 pavilions, and more than 175 rides and attractions. 3. Thailand introduces mandatory digital arrival card Travellers planning trips to Thailand should take note, from May 1, 2025, all foreign visitors will be required to submit a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival, replacing the long-standing paper-based TM.6 form. The electronic form must be completed in advance and includes personal and travel details. It applies to all ports of entry - air, land, and sea and can be submitted up to three days prior to travel. Authorities say the new system is part of broader efforts to enhance border control, tackle human trafficking, and modernise tourism infrastructure. The change was confirmed during the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai by Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. 4. WhatsApp will stop working on older iPhones From May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer be supported on iPhones running iOS versions earlier than 15.1. The move is part of a continued push to improve user security and phase out support for outdated devices that no longer receive Apple's security updates. The following models will be affected: iPhone 5s iPhone 6 iPhone 6 Plus These devices have already been classified as 'obsolete' by Apple, meaning official hardware servicing and parts are no longer available. 5. UAE to enforce new Climate Change Law A new climate change law will come into effect in the UAE on May 30, 2025, requiring businesses to track, measure, and manage their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as part of the country's push towards carbon neutrality. RTA's new Dh12 Dubai-Sharjah bus service hits road on May 2
Dubai's transport authority has announced the launch of a bus service between the emirate and Sharjah on Friday, May 2. It is the latest measure by authorities to tackle rising levels of traffic congestion in Dubai and Sharjah. Route 308 will connect Stadium Bus Station in Dubai to Al Jubail Bus Station in Sharjah with a one-way fare of Dh12. 'Enhancing connectivity is central to positioning public transport as the preferred choice for mobility across the emirate,' said Adel Shakeri, director of planning and business development at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The authority is committed to expanding the public bus network and improving integration with services such as the metro, tram and marine transport, he added. Also on May 2, the RTA will reroute some services to 'offer passengers a smoother, more efficient, and comfortable commuting experience'. Among the changes are a stop added at Al Ruwayah Farm area for Routes 66 and 67. For Route 32C, the service between Al Jafiliya Bus Station and Al Satwa Bus Station has ceased. Passengers travelling to Al Satwa are advised to use Route F27. On Route F12, the section between Al Satwa Roundabout and Al Wasl Park has stopped, with the service rerouted through Kuwait Street. The move is the latest attempt to bolster public transportation in both emirates. Last September, the roads and transport authority in Sharjah introduced 10 new electric buses to serve three intercity routes. The fleet of electric buses are in operation on routes to and from Dubai, Ajman and the coastal city of Al Hamriyah in Sharjah.
