Ma'an allocated Dh98.6 million of community contributions across sectors in 2024
12 Mar 2025 23:22 KHALED AL KHAWALDEH (ABU DHABI) The Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, the Abu Dhabi Government's official channel to receive social contributions, on Wednesday revealed that over Dh98.6 million of community contributions was allocated in 2024 marking a landmark year for the organisation. It was one of several numbers released as part of the unveiling of the annual community contribution report which Abdullah Al Ameri, Director General of Ma'an, told Aletihad was crucial to maintaining the organisation's key tenant of transparency. "We are intended as the Authority of Social Contribution to be the bridge and the connector between the donors, individuals or private sector companies," he said."We help allocate towards the social causes in Abu Dhabi and we're trying to raise the awareness and the culture of giving, and to invite more corporates to collaborate." Ma'an said its 51 projects supported more than 23,498 individuals across Abu Dhabi in 2024. The beneficiaries came from various demographics and received support for different issues ranging from health to student help. Of the total, the health sector received Dh36.8 million for nine projects focused on social healthcare services, while Dh33.6 million was directed towards 26 social sector projects aimed at empowering community members in Abu Dhabi. The education sector was allocated Dh20 million across eight projects to enhance learning opportunities. Additionally, the allocation of Dh8.2 million funded eight projects in the environment and infrastructure sectors, promoting sustainability and infrastructure development. Some of the key social projects included the facilitation of emergency housing for distressed families, supporting the wellbeing of inmates in prisons with support and training, and several initiatives to support the integration of people of determination into society. In the health sector, over Dh2 million was allocated for supporting those with Multiple Sclerosis. Funding was also made available for lower-income families for health insurance and those grieving from recent losses of loved ones and struggling with death-related transactions. In the education sector, over Dh6.5 million was provided for the rehabilitation of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Bangladesh Islamia School and the Pakistani Community Welfare School to ensure a safe learning environment. Over Dh7 million was provided to low-income families struggling with their tuition fees. Furthermore, over Dh4 million was allocated to establish community parks across Liwa in an effort to improve the environment. Other initiatives that received substantial funding include mangrove and tree planting, mural painting, and playground renovation."We released this report to have full transparency regarding how we redirect the contributions towards social projects," Al Ameri said. "We want to invite more corporates to collaborate with the social contribution authority and use the methodologies that we have, redirecting the contributions and the CSR of their companies towards social causes." Currently, Ma'an offers several incentives for businesses looking to contribute, including tax offsets, better access to in-country procurement, and recognition within the UAE. Ma'an, an Abu Dhabi organisation that leads community initiatives in the emirate, allocated Dh98.6 million ($26.8 million) in support of 51 projects last year. The figures were revealed in its report for 2024, which was released on Wednesday, and are an increase from the Dh91 million allocated in 2023. It was estimated that more than 23,498 individuals were positively affected within the community, benefiting directly from Ma'an's initiatives. Formed in 2019 by the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, the Authority directs funding from the public and private sectors to address social challenges. 'Ma'an plays an integral role in enhancing the quality of life for community members in Abu Dhabi,' Abdullah Al Ameri, director general of the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an, said. 'The Authority's evolving growth is evident in its year-on-year increase in community contributions, a further testament of its dedication to building a collaborative community that supports one another.' The contributions were divided into different sectors with the largest sum – Dh 36.8 million – going to nine projects in the health sector. These included support for elderly health care centres and covering health insurance costs. Support was provided to 1,118 patients, 448 inmates and 816 individuals from low-income families. Ma'an initiatives also supported families' grieving the loss of a loved one by covering burial costs. The social sector received Dh33.6 million through 26 projects to address social priorities, including empowering community groups in Abu Dhabi, to be active members of the community. They covered the annual rental costs of temporary housing for humanitarian and social cases whose housing needed maintenance, demolition or construction. Three air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders, providing them with a comfortable space to take breaks during their shifts, were also set up. A significant portion, Dh20 million, was allocated towards the education sector which was divided across eight projects. Among this was Dh6 million for the refurbishment of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Bangladesh Islamia School and Pakistan Community Welfare School. The funds also helped cover school fees for children from low-income families and to support orphans. A further Dh8.2 million was dedicated to the environment and infrastructure sector, funding eight projects aimed at promoting sustainable development, preserving the environment and enhancing infrastructure. Aldar's 2024 profit surges 43% amid thriving property market
Aldar Properties, Abu Dhabi's biggest listed developer, reported a 43 per cent rise in its 2024 profit, as a sharp increase in UAE sales to overseas and resident buyers drove revenue amid a boom in the emirate's property market. Net profit attributable to equity holders of the company for the 12 months to the end of December rose to Dh5.6 billion ($1.49 billion), the company said in a statement on Monday to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, where its shares are traded. Revenue and rental income during the reporting period jumped by more than 62 per cent on an annual basis to Dh23 billion. Aldar's full-year sales reached Dh33.6 billion, up 20 per cent from the previous year. UAE sales to overseas and foreign resident buyers hit Dh22.2 billion at the end of last year, accounting for about 78 per cent of total sales, a sharp increase from 66 per cent contribution in 2023, the company said. 'During 2024, Aldar delivered exceptional operational and financial performance against the backdrop of a thriving domestic real estate market, which is being enabled by government policies that ensure the UAE is one of the world's most attractive destinations for both individuals and businesses to call home,' said Mohamed Al Mubarak, chairman of Aldar Properties.
