Abu Dhabi launches global health Declaration to help you live healthier, longer
Abu Dhabi: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has launched a groundbreaking Declaration on Longevity and Precision Medicine at Abu Dhabi Global Health Week 2025, marking a milestone in efforts to transform healthcare delivery and research worldwide. As the first initiative of its kind, and developed in collaboration with leading international health organisations, academic institutions, and industry pioneers, the declaration establishes key principles to accelerate the advancement of precision medicine and longevity science. The signing was led by DoH and included M42, Masdar City, PureHealth, Illumina, NYU Abu Dhabi, the University of Pennsylvania, Aldar, Children's National Hospital, Burjeel, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi (IHLAD). Extending healthy life span Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of DoH, said: 'Healthy populations lead to healthy communities, stronger social cohesion, and fuel economic growth. This declaration unites global leaders to harness emerging technologies responsibly and deliver the benefits of precision medicine to all. Because health knows no boundaries, we are working together towards actionable and long-term solutions.' Speaking to Gulf News, he added: 'We are proud to launch this 'Charter for Healthy Longevity and Precision Medicine,' driven by our belief in the need to unite global healthcare leaders to responsibly leverage emerging technologies, unlock the full potential of precision medicine, and make it accessible to all. Our goal is to improve global health and well-being, enabling healthy societies that can contribute to global economic growth and prosperity. Understanding the critical role of health in global development, we are committed to fostering collaboration and partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem to generate long-term, tangible impact.' More elderly people Developed in collaboration with experts worldwide, the declaration aims to drive the adoption of personalised care and promote research into extending healthy lifespans. It highlights the urgency of addressing the widening health span-lifespan gap, which currently stands at nearly a decade globally. The declaration comes at a critical time as the World Health Organisation projects the global population aged 60 and older will double to 2.1 billion by 2050. Concurrently, the precision medicine market is expected to grow from US$81 billion in 2023 to more than US$175 billion by 2030. World's first centre The UAE is a regional and global leader in the longevity market, driven by pioneering regulatory frameworks, investments in precision medicine, and groundbreaking initiatives, such as the world's first licensed Healthy Longevity Medicine Centre. The UAE's longevity market is estimated to reach US$32 billion by 2026, up from US$19 billion in 2020. The declaration outlines bold commitments to advance longevity science, artificial intelligence, diagnostics, and personalised therapeutics. It sets forth six key pillars: advancing research and innovation, enhancing collaboration and knowledge-sharing, investing in education and workforce development, advocating for supportive policy and regulation, upholding ethics and responsible practices, and engaging the public about longevity research and its implications for health and society. Mediclinic invests more than Dh120 million at Airport Road Hospital in Abu Dhabi
Mediclinic Middle East, one of the UAE's leading private healthcare providers with operations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai, announced an investment of more than Dh120 million at its flagship Abu Dhabi facility, Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital. The investment will be used to expand and enhance healthcare infrastructure at the hospital to further strengthen access to high-quality medical services for patients and their families across the emirate. The announcement was made during Abu Dhabi Global Health Week 2025, a major government initiative by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi that seeks to advance the future of health and well-being. The expansion project, which is under way, includes the development of several key areas within the hospital, including additional consulting rooms, an expanded theatre complex, new endoscopy suites and increased capacity for day-care beds. The project will also see the introduction of additional labour and delivery rooms, along with an increase in capacity for its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. "Ever since we entered the Abu Dhabi market in 2016, Mediclinic has worked to expand and improve its facilities and service offerings, not only enhancing patient care, but also supporting the Department of Health's commitment to innovation and long-term health system sustainability.' This expansion reflects Mediclinic's ongoing commitment to delivering world-class healthcare services in Abu Dhabi and to significantly enhancing the patient experience by improving accessibility and the range of specialist care available. Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital was established in 2008 and provides a wide range of advanced inpatient and outpatient services. It underwent significant redevelopment and expansion in 2021 with the addition of a building which more than doubled the size of the existing hospital, and included the addition of a state-of-the-art comprehensive cancer centre. Construction on the new project has begun with a phased implementation over the coming months, while all existing services continue uninterrupted. Completion is expected by early 2026.
